Tim, if you found the right watch in Italy then you should really book a return flight and take a long weekend sipping pinot and enjoying Italy with your new watch! The money you will save will mean you get a nice trip and still 500 in your pocket clear.
Every year I do the UK to Baltic drive. This year I will detour again to Zurich to stop off and look at some local watch makers. Same rules apply for rare cars as rare watches, got to make the trip!

Second hand higher end watches do seem to be a little cheaper in Italy and Greece than specialist watch dealers than the UK, don't know why, oh yes I do, they're maybe not as greedy as here 
It does make sense as you say, just that you are very reliant on the dealers honest description of the watch condition which I'm particularly fussy with :roll: Tim.
