Watchfinder.co.uk - Tag Gulf Pics Added

Hi all,

Has anyone used Watchfinder recently and can give some feedback please. I've contacted them this evening to give me a part ex quote against a watch (Tag) they have for sale but it does seem a bit over priced, well quite alot compared to recent prices I've seen of late. Only problem is I can't find another watch for sale in the UK apart from a roughish one on ebay. Theres a few on Chrono24 which are a fair bit cheaper but all overseas which puts me off slightly.

Cheers,

Tim.

They are like the main dealers of the watch world , nice stock but pricey & going by the PX deal they offered on my watch to trade for one of theirs they give poor prices
No surprise really , better selling privately & buying privately if you can find what you want .
Is it one of those replica Swatch ones you are after :P

Haha thanks Mr Wilks, I've tried the selling private route but in all honesty the offers I've had aren't much above what Blowers watch dealer offered me a few months back which was too low. I'm looking to sell my Tag Carrera Monaco Grand Prix and hopefully get the Monaco Gulf, I've been looking for a private sale Gulf for about 12 months but nothing much has come up on Chrono24 and the like, I now see Watchfinder have got 2 in but both priced the same but I feel 800 or so overpriced compared to watch dealers in Europe. Anyways I've filled Watchfinders form in with a price I want for the Carrera and will see what they come back with, not a lot probably.

Blowers offered me 1200 for the Carrera and had others for sale for on their site for 2400 and 2600 lol not a bad profit for little work :x

Have you priced up buying new in europe with the current exchange rate ?
A pal of mine bought his navitimer through a reputable shop in Tenerife , he viewed & discussed the sale with them around easter & continued correspondence via email before purchasing when he returned in the autumn
Saved around £1000 on UK new price & paid what many such as watchfinder were selling second hand for

I did about 2 years ago but bailed out at the time, as far as I'm aware all new stock of the Monaco Gulf have been sold and now discontinued, there were only so many made. Theres a few Gulfs on Chrono24 at a few Italian and Greek watch dealers in good nick for around a grand less than watchfinder but I feel a bit risky buying from abroad, some dealers also will only post at the buyers risk.

You've both covered the key elements I would have mentioned with regards to WF

Tim, assuming you are not on any of the watch forums, which are often your best bet of value - although if not, then joining to sell is not even possible, let alone frowned upon as per Z4.

Monaco gulf is stunning & on my list, well amongst others, a little like Pokemon!

Lol thanks for your help guys. I do like my watches but for some reason never joined any watch forums.

I don't know why I didn't buy the Gulf in the first place, but I went for the Steve McQueen blue dial Instead then sold it to get the Carerra :headbang:

The Gulf Edition has always been nagging me in the background so would like one before they get hard to find which they re starting too in decent nick.

I bought my Tag from Watchfinder and was very happy with the service i received.

I even got a Few hundred pounds off of the shelf price :)

Try and get them down on a cost to change Tim.

Why dont you keep yours and get yourself the other when you can afford it, saves losing as much money and a man can never have too many nice watches :)

Are there any import taxes to consider when doing this. Or is this within legal limits . As I am off to Tenerife in November. Steve

Tim which version of the Gulf are you interested in as there were three limited editions made I believe ,Two with a run of 4000 and one with a run of 2500.

The Monaco Gulf version you mention with the "glass" case back (it's actually sapphire) is a newer version. The face of the watch is Gray and the strap should be Gray as well (I have this watch and it was released in 2009. The watch crystal (on the face of the watch) is sapphire as well and less vulnerable to scratches (keep in mind the word less - it's not impossible to scratch!)

The older version of the Monaco Gulf does have the solid (metal) case back and the crystal is actually plexiglass (a much softer material than sapphire). It's face is actually Black and the strap is Black with Orange stitching. It is my understanding that although the plexiglass is more vulnerable to scratches, it is actually easier to polish out the scratches than it is with sapphire.

There are some other differences (case size) and Calibre, but if you really want a Monaco Gulf Edition, those issues probably won't matter to you.

+1 for looking in Europe I got my aquaracer from an AD when I was in Tenerife (a good few years ago) but it cost around £800 at the time when the best price I could find it for in the UK was over £1200 so a really big saving

Thanks for all your advice guys, much appreciated, the deed has been done :o and traded in the Carerra against the Gulf so hopefully all good. I know as suggested I could wait but having waited for one to come along that looks to be in good nick I thought best buy now while I can, plus I'm impatient :)

Stephen thanks for your explanation, I've gone for the latter version of the 4000 edition with the grey face and strap, I would have preferred the black faced earlier version but they are getting quite hard to find in decent condition. Theres one on e-bay at the moment, the seller described it as having minor scratches and hardly worn but when I messaged him and asked if there were any nicks or dings in the case he skirted round my questions so passed on it.

Will see when I receive the Gulf from Watchfinder and at least I can return it fairly easily if not satisfied. There is buying from abroad option which I've looked at but whern spending a couple of thousand pounds I just feel a little uneasy. Have to say I've found Watchfinder pleasant to deal with this morning and very quick to respond to my emails and ringing me up etc. They offered me me 600 quid over what Blowers offered me so reasonably pleased.

Tim.

How exciting Tim. Be sure to post a picture.

I have said before that this forum is an expensive one. From the under £300 thread my Seiko arrived from the U.S. In a week. I love it and if you enjoy the Gulf as much, you will be a happy man.
