Vulcan bomber

Just watched third aerobatic display by the Vulcan, since we moved here 6 years ago, free from my back garden. It's impressive ! Excited, so I thought I'd share :-)

Loved the Vulcan. Think that's the only one left flying.

I have fond memories of sitting on top of the rock of Gibraltar, looking down on the air field, with a warm breeze gently cooling the cliff tops, as the mediteranian sun gently baked my back and watching several Vulcans fly short sorties around the rock, then back in to land.

Happy Days. :)

Get the BBMF over my back garden nearly every weekend in the summer, never fails to make me grin. Also love the Vulcan, my dad worked on them in the 70's, fantastic, noisy aircraft, used to make the house shake ever time they took off

Tapatalking...

I remember seeing them at St.Mawgan air displays in the 70's the sound was rumbling through you for ever. Spitfires, Shackletons also with the distincive Merlin engine sound were incredible.

Wonders where it had been. Flew over me at around 4.30 this afternoon on Cannock Chase.

Impressive plane :)

To be fair, I ran outside without even shoes on, and there was no way I was going to miss something by going in for photographic equipment !

Quick Google reveals it's main job today was Cosford airshow http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2013/04/06/vulcan-bomber-signed-up-for-raf-cosford-air-show/

It was. First time I saw it a few years back, I screamed for husband to come out as it was so low and noisy I thought it was crashing ! Best one was last year, was driving along in the 2 close to home with top down and it flew overhead. Felt like Top Gun.

I live next in the village next to Finningley which is where Doncaster airport is located.

For those that don't know, Doncaster airport is the home of the Vulcan so every sunday when it takes off to go to the shows I get a free display as it takes off and when it comes into land. And I mean the runway is practically at the top of my road.

It's got a massive following round here. Every time it takes off the pilot always turns left then right to give a little wave to everyone watching... It is sooo loud but it's amazing to see. The wine from the engines on tick over on the runway is unmistakable

This year is supposedly the last year of flight although they are trying hard to secure grants and funding to keep it flying.

Here's a quick picture I managed to snap of it yesterday over the back garden taking off. :)

Took this a few years ago at RIAT i believe. Have been lucky enough to be part of the RAF and gain some lovely VIP experiences in my past :D

You're very lucky to have a free show. something very sinister about the Vulcan

There seems to be quite a few fans on the forum too http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41742&p=589044&hilit=+vulcan#p589044

I work with an ex RAF guy who was on Ascension Island when the Port Stanley bombing took place. He says it took about 20 Victor tankers to get the one Vulcan to the Falklands .Each Victor had to refuel each other to extend its range and then had to repeat on the way back.He says it took about 20hours in total.
