My dad was working at Farnborough Air Show the year the Blackbird was visiting. Over the tannoy came the announcement that the blackbird had overshot as it was travelling so fast and was turning round over Belgium before returning !!

If I'm not mistaken I was at Farnborough that year. Must have been '74 ish. Only ever went once as a school boy and recall that message.

In '69 I was a young kid living in the hills over Paris. My father was working for RR on space engines and got us to see the first 'test' flight of Concorde over Paris. Out of this world to a young lad
I'll have to ask him. He was PR manager for Dowty Aerospace so he was at Farnborough, Paris etc. he got a photo for me signed by all the blackbird crew. Must dig it out!

Wow that Blackbird looks absolutely awesome, what a beast.

I first saw it while stationed at Castle AFB in California. It was top secret at the time, hidden in one of the hangers. Could not believe it.

Interesting but long video (40+ min) of the Vulcan during the Falklands war.

When passing out of training in the RAF it is traditional to have a flypast by one or more planes, type or types usually unknown until the event.

Back in the day. more years ago than I care to remember, the Vulcan performed the flypast for my passing out parade. It approached from the rear, applying full power and zooming up as it passed over us. For the next 5 minutes we could see the drill sergeants screaming orders but had no idea what the words coming out of their mouths were. Deafened and dumbstruck!
