Vulcan Bomber Pics from Sunday 04 Oct 2015, Last Display flight

Ah, Operation Black Buck. Couple of colleagues of mine were involved in that, incredible organisation to accomplish the mission (linky)

I joined the RAF in 1972 and I was fortunate enough to have one of these wonderful aircraft complete a fly past on our passing out parade. It was flanked by 2 other wonderful aircraft: the English Electric Lightning. All three......yes......ALL three stood on their tails and climbed in a cacophony of noise that you felt deep in your chest. It is something I have never ever forgotten. The noise was intoxicating!

The Handley Page Victor refuelling aircraft at RAF Marham came close for noise. The long runway was also used by B52 Bombers from the USAF during the Blue Steel competition. Sounded a bit nancy boy by comparison and threw out a lot of black muck.

The Buc's at Laarbruch in Germany made a huge noise. Our nuke deterrent ......it flew under the radar and threw the bmb. You never heard it coming....only when it went over your head. The noise was enough to produce a turtles head in those of a nervous disposition!!

Petach - when were you in laarbruch? My father was on buccs in the late 1970's and early 1980's, have many fond memories of them as well!

I was there from 73 to 75. I was a snowdrop! Stood under the Buccs many a cold night. Was your Dad a pilot/nav? or ground crew? .

I think Laarbruch is now a civil airport.

I have many many memories of laarbruch, especially the night I got nicked by the German Alt Wilhelms for stealing flags from flagpoles outside the church at Kleve. I was p*ssed of course...otherwise wouldn't have shinned up that high for them.

Ah just missed you. My Dad was the WO on 16 Sqn from 77 - 81 then at Eng Wg Hq from 82 to 86.

I was nicked for stealing VAG flags from the garage at Weeze, so looks like a common trend!
