Have you got this sorted? From that pic you have your pry bar in the wrong place I think. It loos like your tyring to jam it in past the spring.
I located the top first then pried the wishbon down to get the bottom in

Yes I am and that was one of the problems, thats when we started standing on the hub.

ANyone got a picture as to where I should 'Jam' my bar, I have a long crow bar ready....

ok go down over the top of the caliper and under the front edge of the wishbone. sorry no pic as im in work with the car but if i can find the pic i used quick ill link it.

it didn't take alot of force to move the wishbone. you could lift it up and down easilly. but you did have to press down reasonably hard to get the new spring in. if your fully stood on it it should be more than enough.

If I didn't have so much work to do (and you weren't like 30 miles away) I'd pop down. Sorry mate. But as said, your pry bar should be closer to the disc, not at the source of the movement, as you're getting not enough leverage.

If you really get properly stuck, let me know and I'll try to free up some time.

Thanks, and thank you to all that have given suggestions...

.. I have a feeling the handbrake being on might be and issue, but we will see later, fingers crossed

We put the bar to the right of the disc.

We had a 6ft long slightly curved upwards bar though, so was very easy for my dad to use all his 15st as leverage

And the winner is...... DR-Z.........

All done, for all you that are about to do it or have written how to's........MAKE SURE YOU RELEASE THE HANDBRAKE!!!

All done, took 10 minutes each side........

4 pack for DR-Z...... Let me know when you are in the area........

Thanks. Glad you got it sorted - my springs arrived today, so will make sure I take my brake off when I do the job at the weekend.

I'm unlikely to be down in your area, so why not make a small donation to the forum instead? :D

And a question to you: with the handbrake released, how easy was it to move the control arm down? Do I need a pry bar, or will standing on the hub be enough?

No probs, will do.

If you have someone to hand, standing on the hub is enough, but if you are on your own, you will need a bar..

Really easy job, don't know what all the fuss is about

Surprising how much tension the handbrake holds, stopping the arm to go fully down.

I used a motorcycle anchor hoop I have cemented into the floor of the garage and a ratchet strap

However, using the bar exactly how pictured is probably the solution in 99% of the cases :P

My handbrake was on the whole time and didn't cause me any issue. I didnt use a bar either, was not necessary just put my weight on the hub and jiggled the spring out. Glad you are sorted anyway.

Yeah my handbrake was on too. Your's may need adjusting?

Or maybe mine is nice and firm (or err) and yours are slack?

I have a habit of putting a handbrake on hard, habit from a car that didn't always hold, as in auto need to get out of that habit.
