[UPDATE] Anyone Interested in Upgrading Their Xenon Projectors?

I've got a set of the older ones of these in mine (Mini 4.0 i think) and they're fantastic. The cutoff step on the 4.0 is a lot more sudden and likely the design is a bit older, but well worth it. I will say, however, I found the EM Tuning brackets to me mediocre at best (didn't have cutouts where the screws holding the housing together were, so had to carve extra holes into them) and ended up getting TRS ones from the States.

What bulbs are you using? Certainly looks a lot whiter than mine with Osram Nightbreaker Lasers, but that could be camera tricks.

Do you know if they do a drive in and drive out service aswell? Wouldnt mind paying the labour to get it sorted properly first time round.

I'm sure he would for another £30/40 pounds I guess. There isn't that much labour involved. I'll ask him and let you know.

The brackets I initially got from EM tuning were fine, I just had to enlarge one hole by 1mm. When we were working together, he took note of what needed to be improved though, so I bet whatever he sends out now is better.

I believe I have the same bulbs as you. I tried changing to them from old Philips ones when I still had the OEM projectors, and was disappointed to find that it made no improvement whatsoever and colour temperature was the same. The Mini 5s have an anti-glare/reflectionccoating that looks somewhat blue, and it let's more light through than Mini 4s. I think the camera captured the colour really well. Just didn't capture just how far they reach.

They look great - I'd be interested once I see the how to

Until I write my own with the updated design (no need for igniters or playing around with spacers). Have a look at this how to, it is very similar:

Cool, thanks Lucas! Winter is fast approaching and I dont fancy the idea of hanging around outside in the cold/rain trying to DIY it.

Hi everyone,

Since getting my current Z4, which has factory bi-xenons, I complained about how crappy they are. In August I bought Morimoto D2S Mini 5s from Morimoto's only UK supplier, EM Tuning, and tried installing them. I was not at all pleased with the fitment as the entire projector was essentially hidden inside the headlights, so it looked horrible, but light output still impressive.

EM Tuning agreed to work with me and modify the projectors so they would fit the headlights perfectly and look like the OEM projector or better. We managed this and I convinced him to send me some special prices for forum members who wish to do the same.

Here's a video of the final result:

[youtube]zhRc6aNGWyY[/youtube]

If anyone is interested in doing this, I can write a how to with lots of photos on what needs to be modified (requires some cutting), and how to install the kit (easy). Here's the price directly from EM Tuning, which includes a service in which EM Tuning would send an already cut projector and all you'd need to do is installing it:

Fook'n ell lol  Those are insane! I NEED THESE!

Only problem is that I don't have bi-xenons on my car at the moment. The car is a 2003 3.0i E85, I don't know if bi-xenons were equipped as standard on the car as the previous owner decided to install the aftermarket Sonar headlights like the ones below (not my pic):

Can these be retro-fitted into these headlights? I really want something like this, I have tried the LED conversion route and they are simply shit (no other way to describe it lol). I installed these from NightEye/NovSight - 10000 Lumens output  :

I have to say I was rather disappointed with them, especially after all the good reviews. They maybe are better than standard halogens, but not by much that everyone seems to rave on about! I found that the beam pattern is very scattered, not bright enough and not focused and definitely blinding when I saw someone else drive the car...

These would probably be my only last option if I can retro-fit these?

I wondered if they would fit the pre-facelift E85. I think it's very likely the projector might be the same without the bi-xenon motor. But I won't know until I can see the pre-facelift headlights projector. Can you possibly take a few photos of the inside of one?

[ref]Snoop D[/ref], I know EM tuning would be able to retrofit any projector into any splittable headlight (even non xenon ones). There are many different ways of mounting Morimoto projectors. Might be worth dropping him an email if you want to change the projectors in that aftermarket headlight.

Hi, thanks for the swift reply. I will get pictures tomorrow for you.

Do you have his e-mail address and I will enquire about these?

Thanks

Hi Lucas!

Here are the pictures as requested:

Projector mounting (H7 bulb holder):

Has anyone ever actually been through an MOT with these fitted? Just seems to me that the beam pattern is a world away from OEM.

I passed my MOT three weeks ago, no problems whatsoever (M21LUD). The pattern is exactly like my dad's 19 QASHQAI, so still complies with all the applicable legislations I think.

It looks to me like the projector can't be easily retrofit into those :( If the headlight units can be split though, there will be a way, but probably not easy or cheap (if you're paying someone else to do it).

Had one done a few months back with the 4.0 versions of these and no comments made. As above they may be different to OEM for this particular car but they're just a more modern design that fits legislation.

Been speaking to Trups at EM tuning and they do a complete in and out job on the same day, takes a few hours only . Just waiting to get a quote from them.

I'm just waiting for Trups to give me a full breakdown/price list so I can update this thread. The guy who manufactures the brackets for EM Tuning is currently away, so he's just waiting for him to come back.

I also asked him to put a interior LED kit together for those interested (warm colour so still the nice yellowish hue but stronger, and also a cool white kit).
