Tyre advise please

Hi 101 question here (apologies)... When you put spacers on I take it that you also need longer wheel bolts to make it through the spacer into the mounting flange?

What is the ride like on the Vred’s. Does it do away with the awful team lining I am experiencing at the moment?

I was convinced there was a suspension issue with my car, as anything over 60mph feels dangerous on certain roads, but I am assured by by garage that it’s the tyres causing the issue.

Feels like driving on ice doesn't it?

Yeah it certainly does. Worse when you first come off the throttle and onto the brakes. There has been a couple of incidents where I am amazed I haven’t spun the car with the way it seems to go off balance and fight.

I think I am just going to turn a blind eye to the price of the MPS4’s and have a set fitted

You shouldn't be using any spacers with the genuine 437M, any further away from the car and the wheels will certainly rub the fenders.

Lovely. Thanks mate.

Thanks, so a stock 35is (i.e. no suspension lowering or spacers or anything like that) will work OK with 275 rears and 225 fronts R19 35 437M - just old ones off and new ones on????
I notice my current wheels have no sensors on the valves on the exterior like my 5 series does, so I gather the tyre pressure management system on E89 does not use sensors on the wheels but uses wheel rotation to gather if there's a flat?

225/35 would be too skinny on the front, the wheels are 9j width so 225 would look stretched. 245/35 would be the minimum for a 9j. I have 255/35 on the front but it does rub very slightly when parking.
Hi mate , is this rub pronounced and will it damage the car or do you make sure you don't put full lock on?

It's very slight, just against the front of the arch liner. I've been driving with it for 6 months now and there's no damage, it just seems to brush against it. Next time I'll go for 245/35.

Front as in the outer edge of the front tyres on the plastic inside the wing? Or the inside nearer the engine?

So you run 275/35/R19 rear and 255/35/R19 front? Does the Z or Y you see on tyres actually matter that much?

Thanks for answering all my questions!

It’s funny I’m running 285/30/19’s rear and 255/35/19’s front and I think they’re humongous :D

The outer edge of the tyre contacts the front of the wheel liner. On the drivers side it grazes the little vent that covers the oil cooler.

Does it really bang against or just barely touches? So what do you do about this? Does it damage the said components or are you careful not to put full lock on?

Doesn't cause any damage. There's the possibility of wheel arch damage over a longer period of time but in 6 months there's nothing more than a clear patch in the wheel well where the tyre had rubbed away the road grime.

I could use a heat gun and slightly reshape the liner, might try that when the weather improves and I've got the wheels off the car.

My insurance company - the AA - told me this morning that I am not allowed to swap the wheels over on my car for 437M and if I do so my insurance will be invalid  . I am glad they told me because I was going to pick a set up this afternoon and have had to cancel.

Change insurance company.....

Having a pair of P4S 265/30/19 fitted on the rear this afternoon... good riddance to the P Zero

:D lairy with all that torque eh  I thought they were quiet & compliant but instilled zero confidence especially in wet bends.
Sure you will find the PS4S a massive improvement in grip

Yes mate, warm dry day okay, sniff of moisture and wohooo here we go...
Fronts in March when Michelin have 100 pound off promo.

In regards the insurance company situ, that's a bit harsh/stubborn on their part. I am with Swinton and notified them that I had changed my wheels from the 18" BBS split rims to 19" 437M's and they were fine, no increase in premium and happy to send out new policy paperwork reflecting their agreement to the change.
