To good to be True? Why is 3.0si more ££ than M?

I maybe 23 but I also have a house and a mortgage... the house wasnt cheap either oh yea and it has a garage too... Thanks for that anyway btw... :headbang:

If your so happy with your choice why have you put on more than one thread for advice about buying an M. If your happy with self denial continue. :lol:

My pole idea was about people who had bought 3.0Si first and had moved to Ms. I bet 100% of them would agree they wish they did it first time round. I can think of at least a dozen members that would agree.
 
I dont think im being nasty Tom. I live in London, so to me you do live in cheapsville. Garages go for 200k down here :roll:

I could of said, look youve painted your calipers orange because you wish you had AP's or such. I didnt. I am genuinely happy to see a petrol head loving there car. Like i do mine :)

Im saying (again) that this is a really interesting topic now as the purchase price between the M and a 3.0si is as close as ever. And theres reasons for that. You know the reasons to so i wont repeat them.

I am definately happy with my car. As you are with yours. But if you had extra cash to buy a 911, you may debate the pros of spending that extra cash when your M does everything you like so well. And as said depreciating assets are less attractive as you get older. Theres much better (well sensible) ways to spend money truth be known.

Simple then....Just rent a garage or Move to cheapsville!!! Then you can buy your M 8)
 
So not only do I live in cheapsville! I have also wasted my money! And clearly earn nothing in comparison.. because you live in LONDON!!!! omg im so stuuuuuppppiiiddd!!!

One garage may go for 200k but your arguing about the cost of running an M which doesn't sound to me like a decent comparison... and value for money... this gets better.

Well I have the best of both worlds then rite... live in a beautiful place, have a really nice sandstone victorian semi with a separate garage, have the best driving roads and the car to exploit it.

The assumptions also make it worse. But you did say it tho rite? And yes thats exactly why I painted my callipers orange! Not the fact I enjoyed doing it and I think it looks good.

If I had the extra cash I definitely would have bought a 911. Im just lucky... my dad has a 991 Cs and trusts me enough to insure me on it. We often go on road trips with it. In fact me in the M my dad in the Porsche and my uncle in his 355 are heading into europe to have some fun this summer. O yea we all live up north... theres no money up here you no!!

I KNOW why you painted your calipers just as you know why i tinker with my car. Thats why i didnt mention it until you started.

Wow, just... Wow. Come on guys. Chill the feck out, really. For a start, what do the Polish have to do with any of this ? This reference to "Poles" confuses me... Or did you mean "poll" ?

I have a 3.0Si - it is the fastest car I have ever owned, and I have a policy of always having a faster car than my last. I think I may run out of available funds in a couple of cars time... But or now I am loving it. And it is great to commute in. I have never driven an M, but I am sure I would love it. But my bank manager would not enjoy the ongoing costs, and my wife couldn't drive it as she only has an auto licence. Which would be selfish, and even more impractical than having a 2 seat sports car and a family with no ability to have a third car already is.

I think to the OPs question, IMO the answer is purely, and I mean PURELY, economic - the ///M costs more to maintain, costs more when it goes bang, and costs more to run. 90% of people are feeling the pinch right now, and an ///M is simply a step too far. There's a great many good deals out there for people with the money to spend on the love such a car needs, the problem is that there's not so many of those people willing to spend their money like that around. Economics - supply and demand. It is all maths, and the maths are harder to make add up nowadays.

Just my tuppence-worth - back to earning the money for my next hoon now :evil:

I'm with the se/si brigade

Although the M's are much cheaper to buy now, I simply couldn't justify the servicing costs and/or parts. Not to mention the annoyance of paying BMW 'worry money' incase of unforeseen problems.

I have always wondered if the M engines will put as many trouble free miles on the clock as the M54 and S54 engines, anyone know?

The Z4mc is the performance bargain of the decade. A complete blast and probably a great investment.

The 3.0si is a nice car with a big engine.
 
Practically no cars are a great investment. Im sure my financial advisor would crease up if i told him i was buying an M for that reason :D
 
Probably not as many trouble free miles but im sure I read a guy on M3cutters who had 160k on his M3 was still going strong, was a while back tho. There are a lot in the classifieds with high milage tho. But have heard a few M3s have had blown engines etc.

There is the vanos issue but mechanically I think they are pretty sound? Although the 3.0 is supposed to be pretty bullet proof. Has there been anyone on here thats had serious problems with a FBMWSH car thats been properly maintained? at 6 years old there must be a few with average milage or more maybe 100k on an M?

Suppose it depends whether they have had fairly easy lives. Did anyone see that article about the E30 experiment car that had over 1 million miles on it? Everything original apart from proper maintenance and parts replaced at the intervals. They took it apart and stripped it at the million mile mark and there was barely any scoring what so ever! So you never no! I think it was a 320i might have been sponsored by Esso or something. It was in BMW car a few years ago. Pretty impressive seen as tho most dont hit over 200k before being retired.

I agree bargain of the decade.

Lol, sorry. You need to know your engine codes if you want to play in here. In answer to your question, I would bet most in here have spent less on maintenance and repairs than you have modifying to make yours look like an M. The S54 is a good engine and no less reliable than the 3.0 litre. In comparison to other cars its good, the thing that puts me off the 911 are the RMS issues.

Your car looks good though :).
