Thoughts of selling my Zed :(

Why not put a good ad together with a value you want and put it up for sale on pistonheads, if it sells great cash in the bank for you if it doesn't great it was meant to be and you've still got it?

i have a second car and i totally understand where you're coming from with the not driving it thing. i did 1000 miles in my westy between MOT's last year and 250 of them was to the kit car show one say. it just sits there not doing anything and always costing cash.

i keep toying with selling it but then i think it took me 20 months to build its been taken apart countless times and then on the rare times i do drive it nothing comes close. its not even that fast but the sheer experience of driving it is immense

thing is its only a car, if you do sell it then you can always get another later, maybe not the same but you will get another.

I reckon if you've got to this point Rubes, you've probably already done the maths, and know what the logical answer is. Getting on the property ladder isn't cheap these days

You can always buy another in a few years, or you might fancy something else by then

Do what makes you happy.

On paper I can easy afford my ///m and all related running costs yes sometimes I still look at my bank balance and think where did it all go.

I justify mine by the fact I don't smoke and I don't drink as such (rare and social only). It's my hobby and it's what I enjoy :)

 very much so. factor in stuff like this not just the actual cost. it would have been much cheaper for me to go out and buy a westy rather than build one. i still dont know its actual costs but all the time i spend fannyarsing about on it is worth it. same for time spent washing the Z

+1, sounds like you already know where you're going with this, sell and stick the cash in the cookie jar until the time comes :)

I'd sell up Ruby if I were you, there's nothing worse than feeling the pinch when you're starting out, there will be another ///M, if you choose, in the future, but as said previously if you do sell up stick around

There is reason to sell the car even without the house, as it appears it's not used that much. If you didn't need the money or the security then I'd say keep it, but in your current situ, I would sell it, and at east not feel the worry about not having the cash buffer of the guilt of not using it and paying for the upkeep etc

Ruby - sell Zara?!
You'll regret it so defintely weigh up all the pros and cons first.
If you REALLY end up selling then lets make a concerted forum effort to find her a good home.

just come up with the perfect solution. sell me your sole and you could keep your car - i was going to say body but i know your a lady x

Regardless of whether you can or can't afford it, when you buy a home your finances will be stretched further than they previously were.

The fact that you are toying with the idea of selling the Z, would imply that you'd rather let that go than change other aspects of your lifestyle.

If you sell it you can always buy one again, but don't make yourself miserable, giving up your life to be able to pay for a car.

To be honest I've been working part time the last few months so things have been harder financially combined with house purchase thats why I'm feeling the pinch and panicking. However, I've just been promoted and going full time again now so I should be able to afford her and manage the house i suppose. I don't go out much, I don't smoke and hardly drink (what a bore :o ) Yes I like to travel but that's got to be limited now due to my exams over next few months so don't have to curb my lifestyle because of my car. I think it's more about not using her much and doing the sensible thing if she's just sitting around. I know I will miss her and she has brought me many fun moments over the time I've owned her. I'm not going to do anything rash. I'm going to take more opportunities to use her and reassess. My new position is a drive away and I may start feeling the fun again, it's the parking at the other end that worries me :|

Time to arrange another meet to make you fall in love with the Z again?

Practice

It will have to be parked on the road  as my boss will be taking the only spot available with his rather nice Vantage (I don't think I have to remain too low key around this senior).

same as me, life just gets in the way and you start thinking of all the other things you could be spending the cash on. Just had my RFL renewal... £490.... when only doing 2300 miles that is a waste.

My plan is to sell the Z4 and Freelander and get an M135i as a single car solution, still good fun to drive, but still carries 4 people and has enough room for the luggage, which is the role my freelander plays now. it won't be as much of an event as the M, but its the best compromise i can come up with.

You could no doubt do similar in your situation, although i'd give the lower spec Z4's a wide berth. it will be frustrating sitting in a similar cabin without the driving theatre that the M delivers.

best of luck, sounds like there might be a few nice Z's coming onto the market in the next few weeks.....

The big pinch is only at the start of the property ladder - It gets better as time goes by. ie new jobs, promotions etc. ease the situation
My first mortgage went into the 10% to 15%range in the 70's and 80's

You did the right thing buying the best house you could afford at the first time buyer time - Don't you avoid a chunk of stamp duty?

If all else fails there is always "www.bankofparents.com" :D
