If you need a spreadsheet you cannot afford it :)

Succinctly put :) gotta agree

on the contrary, when there's more than one person, and more than one attitude to risk a spreadsheet helps with the decision making. moreover, i'd sooner waste time fiddling with a spreadsheet than sell a car to find out 3 months later I was making the decision based on one off costs that are now out of the way.

some people are clearly too cool for that s**t... :P

I am s**t at spreadsheets - I once got into quite a lot of trouble for over-valuing a deal on an internal sales information system... to the tune of £43m. Wasn't my 'fault', the finance analyst had included an extra year's revenue, but I didn't spot it in amongst all the other confusing numbers

I use spreadsheets all the time for big investment decisions. To consider things properly you need to do some sort of DCF/NPV analysis, which a spreadsheet is very useful for.

It's a good job I didn't use Kryton's law at work otherwise we'd have never bought any pubs!

Me too- have also used them when sat on the comfort of my sofa to negotiate on a few comparable cars.
