Thoughts of selling my Zed :(

Ah been thinking about selling my ///M lately..not something I really want to do but having just bought a 3 bed house alone the reality of my outgoings has hit me: mortgage, council tax, bills, furnishings, buildings insurance, maintenance of home.. it has been a big life change. Gone are the carefree days of renting.. Now just having to fork out more because my Polo failed its MOT and I had to pay for sorting it out and a large amount for a professional exam (of which I have 2 in the next 12 months) makes me seriously question owning the Zed. I'm also barely driving these days and often use the Polo. What to do?

Buy a 2.0 zed, 90% of the fun, 50% of the cost..

Don't think you were around when I owned 'blueflash' but she was a beut, probably the forums fave car EVER!!!!!!!!

Not a bad idea Woots - was going to suggest Pawn Sacrifices old car would replace both and car is located in South East .

Sell the Polo

Not an option because I will not want to use the Zed to go to: the gym, the supermarket, home visits in dodgy areas, anywhere I go where certain seniors may be for fear of "showing off" with a sports car (I like being low key at work).

Def look into a 2.0 rubes...

Its all very well you lot telling her not to sell the zed but I understand Ruby.
Lifestyle changes happen and if you can't keep it, you can't. Doesn't mean you can never have another in the future.
Its difficult and sometimes silly to maintain 2 cars when finances are stretched especially if you don't use it so often and the winter coming too.
Do what you have to do and what's right for you personally..

+1 with what Carol said. I was running two cars but decided to consolidate to one. OK it was the zed, but then I don't have to go anywhere dodgy or be low key. Savings of running 1 rather than 2 cars are quite substantial. Also, as Carol says, doesn't mean she can never own another.

The first year is always tough... But once time goes on and you are able to stagger payments a bit then it does get easier.

Things like furnishings and maintenance aren't (or shouldn't be) an everyday drain on finances.

I am sure you will work something out!

Remember it well bought my first flat and felt OK about it- that wasn't so bad- 3 months down the line and I was digging deep for a couple of months - glad I did though certainly paid itself back when I sold is 5-6 years later.

It's a fair cop... said:
I almost daren't ask but why a three bed? If cash is tight surely something smaller would have allowed you to keep the zed? :?

Well the third bedroom is a box room or could be study. It wasn't that steep pricewise to be honest and ticked all the boxes: garden, garage, location...
Techically I can afford the Zed, it just seems like an extravagance particularly when my main use for it now is Meets and Car events (which I thoroughly enjoy).

Buy a 2.0

Downgrade to a 3.0 coupe?

Still has bags of power but less money to keep in the road, well in terms of insurance, servicing and general running costs

Sell the Zed. You can always get another when things settle down. The Polo is more practical to.
