My 3.0 cost me 5 1/2 k and is cheap enough if i park backwards in a tree, ill buy another and put a new sicker on the boot.

But what are the reasons for you putting an M badge on in the first place?
I do find 2.0s with their single exhausts that have then stuck on an M badge are amusing and a little sad. There's just no need to pretend, be comfortable with the fact you bought the car sensible for your needs.

I don't think it is about snobbery at all
It's about making something seem more than what it is which I don't agree with, and I thought this way before I even thought I would own an ///M. An M is an M and a non-M is a non-M. If you want an M buy and M or do what I did and thought that an 'M sport' would satisfy me (it didn't!). In my mind it is no different to sticking a bugatti badge on my BMW
I don't think BMW or M have helped maintain the brand given I think you can get M sport pack on a 118d. Sooner or later those not in the know will have no chance distinguishing what is an M and what is an M sport... I've seen more and more 1/3 series with just an M badge on the back, not for me but I do get why people do it

A badge is not an aesthetic improvement to a car, and considered a fake by the people who have paid a premium for the package that comes with the badge.
It was the same on the saxo forum, VTR/S body kits on a 1.1 was acceptable. Sticking VTS all over it, was/is not.

The whole argument is a bit stupid really ... Erm BMW are just as bad for putting an M branded steering wheel in my cockpit! How dare they when it is only an si ;-)
If someone can't tell the difference between an ///M car and non ///m car because they both have a badge then really who cares less - they're not a car enthusiast and I doubt either of the above would really float their boat - they're the type of people who may simply be "woo'd" by BMW badge snobbery itself. Never mind :???:

Adding ///M parts or BMW installing them from factory is somewhat different to debadging your car and putting a ///M badge in the same spot that it would go on an actual ///M.
Not against adding ///M parts to a car, it's just an aesthetic improvement. Like I say the badge just seems to me like passing something off for more than it is
