This is NOT an ///M

Just be glad of what you've got. I had a 3.0 Roadster for 5 years with not an M badge anywhere on it. Never did it occur to me to stick one on. Why would I? It wasn't an M Car.

If others want to that's fine with me but they do look a little silly.

I'm pretty sure there was an S-Type R...had a 4.2 V8.
You are bang on mate. I had 2 in a row and they were 400 BHP monsters - until the 500 BHP XFR came along, so I had to get one of them. Truly awesome cars. Just couldn't afford to keep the XFR. It was a choice between losing the Zed and the XFR, so......the growling cat had to go! :D

I used to love the look of the S-Type R, but it has not aged well! Even so, as you said a hell of a car, a proper wolf in sheep's clothing.

Out of interest, the dealer who serviced my S Type R's told me that it was the favourite track day experience. Jag's best kept secret!

Hypocrisy. No other way to describe it.

More than anything, what about when an ///M owner opts to change the BMW roundels?

You don't get a whole load of BMW purists whinging about how it takes away heritage from the brand and such...or is that somewhat acceptable because M owners are superior?

As someone relatively new to this forum, and I don't know personally the Op, I can only take things at face value.

It comes across as real snobbery to put up posts like that, and it is this kind of ' how very dare you' it's not a M/ R/ Rs etc that ruins forums.

Get used to it... M Badges and smaller engines are regularly derided.
Notice the 'poverty spec' terms used to describe cars and options chosen by the 'less well off'..

Each to their own I suppose.

I personally think it looks s**t and screams I cant afford the car I really want.

There have been threads about this on every car forum I have been on, from the Golf TDI crew sticking GTI grills and badges on to Audi TT owners sticking S or RS badges on their cars.

live and let live, at least you know you have the real thing under the bonnet.

As stated, nothing about snobbery in my opinion, I don't think anybody is using the "I paid for the privilege of the ///M badge, if you didn't pay for it, you can't use it" argument.

It's more of a case of why pretend to have something that it isn't.

I think you'd all agree it would be sad and strange if I started sewing Ralph Lauren logos on to all of my H&M T-shirts and Howick sweaters. Putting an ///M badge onto a non-M car is no different.

It's not an ///M don't do it....it's weird, be proud of what you have.

I'm not a snob at all, far from it infact, those who have been on the forum for a while can vouch for that I'm sure, I have no problem with people who buy the car they want, whatever the spec or engine size, makes no difference to me, its a Z at the end of the day and thats what this forum is about, this is a great forum with many great people on it, who express their views, in a polite courteous manner, I'm very aware that opinions are like farts, everybody likes their own, my opinion is that its not an ///M so shouldn't pretend to be one, its not about being 'less well off''

Reminds me of when I worked in the lab at a factory, the them and us was evident between the sales force and the factory floor, but it came from the factory floor towards the sales guys not the other way around.

What a load of old tosh.

You 'M' boys are seriously not doing yourselves any favours here. There is no such reaction when a 2.0 or 2.2 car is re-badged as a 3.0 (and yes it doses happen) to give the impression it could be something else. When the odd Alpina body kit adorns a normal roadster and dares to display the Alpina name on the boot, again there is no such reaction. Why? Because nobody gives a flying feck that's why.

It's clearly an 'M' owners only thing. They are all Z4s at the end of the day and that is what the forum is about.

Maybe the owners of the non 'M' cars bearing 'M' badges put them on just to piss off 'M' owners. So stop rising to it you lot! Down 'M' boys! Down I say! Just enjoy your Zed whatever derivative it may be. :D

Take it you don't frequent the Alpina forum then, and seen the busted section....

Tapatalking...

I'm not an M boy and agree with M badges being only for M's

Similarly, I would laugh at any badge that doesn't match a car, turbo or M or GTI or 3.0 or GTRSTurbo ///M4

I suspect rather than being 'sad', they are a lot happier about their badge, than the M owners appear to be about it.

Boot badging cars that aren't really that spec is all a little bit 1998 Max Power isn't it? Regardless of car type, spec or size.

Regardless, I actually don't give a flying fox how others might choose to waste their time, work buttons or misguided ambition. Go for it! Makes me laugh and that's a rare thing in these grey days of austerity ;)

But M owners are well endowed and much more masculine than our small engined brethren, that's why I have an M badge so all the ladies know what to expect :D

+1

And in any case I would feel exactly the same way about this as sticking M on a non M car. and same with sticking Alpina on a non alpina. It's just making something seem more than it is!

Perhaps there's a market for "NOT AN" badges that you count stick at the front.......?

I saw a black 2.5 badged as a 3.0 for sale by a dealer when I was looking for mine. Dealer advertised it as a 2.5 and didn't even realise it had the 3.0 wing bling on.

I've also seen pics (though not in the flesh) of a 3.0 badged roadster with a single exhaust pipe as per 4 cylinder cars.
