This is NOT an ///M

I can understand why people would do it: there is no "M-styling" available for the E85 so the M-badge really has another meaning for those personalised Zed's out there and is surely not meant to be offensive. I had the M-badge on my Zed for that same reason but got fed up with the negative comments, so I removed it.

I don't really see how it impacts the brand, people can tell when it's not a real M and M's stay popular regardless. Those who can't see the difference, don't even know what an M actually is.

I never used to get it. :?

But then my daughter met this really nice guy. Stick with me here. There young they both love cars. However life being what it is they bought a bigger house and the nice cars became mere aspirations.

Nice guy now has a Blue 318i, with a full M3 Evo body kit mirrors & badges, and a single exhaust that would look better on a chaved up CLIO sport and I totally get it. He would love to be driving an M3, however can't presently afford one, so has created a little bit of fantasy that makes him feel better.

See simples

I just don't get why dress something up to look like something it isn't :?

I mean, I could stick a v12 badge on the back of my Z but what's the point? It won't magically double the number of cylinders, will only fool idiots and anyone knowledgeable will think i'm an idiot

I'd never stick anything M branded on a non-M car, but each to his own :)

Doesn't really bother me, as someone else says, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that.

But....an M car is a car fettled by M-Division. Brakes, suspension, engine, interior, styling, everything really. To put an M badge on a car that hasn't been is a bit sad. You just make yourself look a bit of a prat. Most people don't even know what an M car is but those who do just think its the car equivalent of sticking a sock down your pants.

Or chicken fillets if you're one of our lady members of course

I'm all for M styling, bumpers, exhausts, aero skirts and bumper, not a problem, as they are an aesthetic improvement and do not relate to what is inside the engine bay.

The M badge however I feel is about the engine, and is a massive no no.

It's fine to have an unbranded watch that may look like a Rolex, which is styling, when you put a Rolex badge on, it relates to what is inside, and that makes it a FAKE!

EDIT: this kind of thing also leads to people on the Subaru websites saying "I burnt a z4m of da lytes erlia, dey is well slow innit"

I saw an e60 520d ///M the other day in tesco car park. A simple thought of ''cock'' entered my mind.

Also one saw a jaguar s type, type r. Very strange.

It's the kind of discussion I've seen in many threads on here, some like it, some don't, others don't bother.

Let's leave it at that. :)

What a coincidence....this is my brother's old Z4 which he sold this time last year. Needless to say he didn't have the M badge on the car when he owned it!

My thoughts exactly! Styling to improve a cars looks or to stand out from the crowd is all good, but a badge that implies your something your not..... Like putting a 'Turbo' sticker on a NA car?! :headbang: lol

It's pure snobbery.

People will buy what they can afford, and so what if the stick a badge on it?
It's their car, they should be able to do what they want with it, not have to remove them because of negative comments.
I reckon it's usually from those who believe their car is more a materialistic purchase that 'God forbid' would possibly be matched by the poorer, those exclusives, who want to post how to change their Z4 washer fluid in the "M" section.

Live and let live.
