Hi guys,

I've seen this Z4 2.5Si Auto up for sale (I think it has been on for a few weeks), and as a newbie I was hoping for some advice.

http://www.forestroadmotorcompany.co.uk/used-cars/bmw-z4-2-5si-sport-2dr-auto-bracknell-201408166645173

Firstly, the colour and spec are fine for me, as is the mileage provided it has all of the history (as stated). I think it is way overpriced considering what I have seen elsewhere, but it's a dealer and I expect a bit of mark-up. More of an issue is the Runway tyres fitted to the car, so I guess that's a bargaining point (or maybe a red flag?).

Looking at the pics gives me no cause for concern, but I was hoping for some advice before I make an appointment. It's a 75 mile trip to get there so it needs to be something I can get a warm feeling over before I go. I don't mind buying the first car I see provided it is the right one at the right price. I just wouldn't want to pay much more than £5k for this to be honest.

Any opinions/advice gratefully received.

Paul

I dont think its that over priced really, i think you may get a few £100 off but i dont think you will get it for 5k!

I would be concered a bit about the tyres, i wouldnt buy a car with ditch finders on it privately IMO as it shows me its not really been cared for, but a dealer may have put them on when the car come in for maximum profit!

Good luck

Ash

Thanks chaps, sorry for the hyperbole - I guess the phrase 'massively overpriced' is a bit of an overstatement, I am just getting a bit of stick from Mrs Stratts regarding the impending purchase (need to keep costs down etc. :headbang: )

I'll give the guy a call and see what is what, I guess there are a lot of unanswered questions that he can help with anyway...

That looks a decent motor for decent money / 06 2.5 auto not crazy miles for under £6k :? possibly even "cheap" :o
Factor in a wheel refurb as well as some tyres cause the drivers side front looks heavily ragged

Hi Stratts,

it's not over-priced as there will be some negotiation on price. Do you want an auto? If so then check all maintenance records and the general condition. Check the roof operation a few times. mr wilks is right - there is some work to be done on the wheels (at least they've high-lighted it in the photo) another negotiation point.

What kind of warranty is being offered? I t's worth going to have a look at - though cheap tyres are a concern on a performance Zed.

I believe there are two outputs available with the 2.5 model - best check which applies to this model.

:driving:

Just to add on those wheels - check them really well as I had the same type on my car and although I knew they needed a refurb I hadn't allowed for one rear having a crack and the other rear having a repaired crack.

Looks like a straight car, from the advert, sensibly priced. As has been said take a good looks at those wheels and ask where it's been driven. May be lots of town driving, hence curbing, or may be lots of hooning, in which case there may be more to find.

Thanks all, made an appointment to go and see it Friday

I got the Vin off of the guy and it is well specced, definitely a 2.5si and has full history. Fingers crossed 'er indoors approves and maybe I'll be :driving:

It's the beer spec out of the 2.5's I had a manual one before the ///M.

Make sure you hear them start up from cold as you want to make sure there is no issues with the HVA's

Looks good! Just check it drives well, i.e. doesnt pull to one side too much. Tyre brands is always a good indication of the previous owner, Also where the number plates were printed. i.e. If they have dealer plates all round... or mis match - leads to checking if there had been a frontal - rear collision in the past.....

Go over each panel see if there any scratches...light swirls?.silver cars its harder to spot I am afraid but its a good thing as its doesnt cause you sleepless nights as do darker cars when they get scratched! :!:

Yep, you did - you're right.

We meet at Kingston Park Tesco Carpark at 10am. This is an informal hoon - nothing pre-arranged. Come if you can make it. If not watch out for the NE runs next season - we've got some great roads in mind and we've had a good turn out in the past. Have a look at the Meet/Events/Roadtrips part of the forum for info and photos to see some of the runs.

:driving:

Not a bad price for a facelift. Name looks familiar... don't suppose you used to work at FMC?
