Thieves around.

We've just bought a 2014 20i (a bit of a jump from a 1 series convertible) and security is the one thing that bothers me, especially with the Diagnostics port thefts so helpfully allowed and supported by EU regulation. Its a great car - I'd like to keep it!
I know that if some scumbag really wants the car they'll do whatever they need to do to get it. I'm not going to make it easy though. Anti-snap anti-bump magnetic locks all round, a 6 foot gate which is always locked at nights and right above that there's a wired IR security camera. Then there's the dog to get past. The car is garaged with two other cars that have to be moved before you can get to it. All the keys are kept out of sight.
The question is, how far do you go? Is it ever enough?
Recent thefts locally have been car-jackings as drivers, usually women, have pulled on to their own driveway. Is it worth installing a tracker? As stated, insurance companies try and fleece you offering amounts well below value if the car disappears.

I'd like to give these toe-rags up to some of the local SAS guys from the barracks up the road for them to take them off for a weekend's entertainment. Much more satisfying than a blunt instrument! I'd do the same to the thieves too ;-)

Evening Redline & welcome - I think the measures you have already taken are sufficient to deter the opportunist thief.

You can never say never, but as a retired cop take it from me even the organised car thief will always go for an easier option.

Your home security is clearly not an easy option - enjoy the car

Hey - Halifaxbantam. Thanks for the assessment. Much appreciated. I suspect my neighbours 435i is a more likely candidate to be taken. Like you say, just put enough obstacles in the way which hopefully we have.

Unfortunately, It's primarily my wife's car, but I may get a look in. I took it out yesterday for a 100 mile spin and its both a pussycat and hoots of fun, not had since a fiat uno turbo many years ago. Can't wait for summer :-)

Aint it soooooo tempting to go to bed with a 240V extension connected to the conservatory door handle :P
Can't rely on our dog to show any interest unless the scumbag arrives with a bag of biscuits

Thankfully the dog raises hell when she hears noises of any kind.
If only - Better than 240v extension I could get a 32kV HT supply from work. That would get not just the scumbags attention but they'd light up the whole neighbourhood on contact with the handle

If they want to theive a zed4 they only have to look on this forum to see the map showing the location and colour of registered users of that page.

Use that and a bit of Google Earth and it gives them some useful info!

We're you a copper in Bradford Mark?

If so you'd have probably come across the scrote that did my house over and nicked my GTI
