Well as a recently retired PH professional and currently working with my old employer on next winter's contingency plans I can say that there is almost no evidence that has been peer reviewed to substantiate your views.

https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2021/02/23/covid-19-analysing-first-vaccine-effectiveness-in-the-uk/

Thanks for that will have a look

If you read what I said

"So by reducing the number of people infected, the length of time they are infected for, the degree of infection and their inability to transmit the virus to others all reduce the probability of a successful mutation.

Vaccines impact all 4 of those key variables."

I described 4 pathways to reduce viral multiplication..I did not say vaccines stop transmission, what I said was that vaccines impact that ability, which they do..by at least 50% according to current research.

You clearly stated that someone who is vaccinated would have the inability to transmit the virus. :?

Your argument to use an analogy is:

With a 1000 bomber raid, we can only shoot down 50% of them with AA guns...so some will get through so lets not bother...
What argument would that be? I am not against the use of the vaccine or people having it...

Be interesting to see how the politics play out with the vaccine.

Outside of this group it's common knowledge that it's only a great danger to the over 60's and people with compromised immune systems (the 10 priority groups that have been vaccinated above).

If we had any humanity we would be sending the excess out Europe etc for the old and the at risk before we started sticking it to healthy 20 year olds who are at very little risk.

Doubt it tho.
Whilst I can see the humanitarian logic, I believe the UK is more of the mind-set that the younger age groups, whilst maybe not affected so much, could provide the 'factories' for the virus to mutate in. By stopping it having that opportunity we potentially lower the chances of untreatable versions appearing.
FWIW, I think we should send any excess just about anywhere except Europe after their political shenanigans of the last week or so.
Even their own medical boards could not make them see sense!
The last place we should be sending excess vaccine is Europe. They were playing politics with peoples lives when they only ordered the German vaccine and the French vaccine so both countries could make an equal amount of profit. The only issue was and the main cause of the shortage in the EU is the French vaccine won't be ready before Xmas. Once they realised this they had to compete with all the other countries who were in front of them in the queue. Send any excess to our less well off Commonwealth Countries.

I have some German friends and I can tell you that they are not happy (understatement of the year) with their politicians at this time.
I’m told that they haven’t even started jabbing the 70’s yet.

I have friends in Sweden that are in the same boat. 60+ and not expecting the jab this side of summer

I am sure they will love you for your opinion that they are not worthy of our jabs :D

Its interesting and seemingly being inored that the Oxford AZ was pioneered in the UK , It was offered At Cost to all countries. The IPR was freely given to other countires as was assitamce to setting up production in other countries both in and out of the EU. The UK govt assisted with funding all this. .gov.uk invested billions.

I think the UK deserves for its orders on the back of this to be fulfilled in full.
UK are committed to sending surplus vaccines to the wider world - once our own population is voluntarily vaccinated

The EU has already been heavy handed and is now effectively making threats against the very country that gave them Oxford AZ despite the fact that they have been rubbishing it for weeks.

No matter how you drill into the statistics, Regardless of whether you agree with it or not, how effec tive it is, whether it stops transmission, whether the odd person gets a DVT, whether you catch it or not it seems to me to be the only effective tool we have in our arsenal.
I personally believe it has been very effective - might not suit everyone but one thing is clear, Deaths have reduced significantly as have hospital admissions.

I’m told tonight that there a 2.5million over 80 year old people who are waiting for a vaccination appointment in Germany!

Listen (and take in) what Ed Straker has to say. He is more qualified than all of the rest of us on this topic.

BUT I must admit this topic has (mostly) been discussed in an adult fashion without too much name calling. Whatever people's opinion regarding the "jab" on here, it has been quite well discussed IMO.

PS I'm getting the new Dettol vaccine next week developed by Trump Industries; can't wait :D

You cut out the article below the piece [ref]AlienZed[/ref],

I don’t want to go abroad when it’s still rife - fully vaccinated or not!
There will not be any normal service, they will be under restrictions so what’s the point ?

Had my Jab today at 3pm (AZ) - so far so good 😊 was very impressed with the extremely efficient way in which people were managed and vaccines delivered. Despite there being queues around the block I was in and out in about 15-20mins.

If the vaccine works like they say it does and all these talks of the vaccine not being effective against these "variants" (don't think there has been one yet of the 200+ that it doesn't work against). Then I don't see any reason why these places can't open?

Things have to get back to normal soon otherwise you hens are just going to be jabbed up in the coop for the rest of your days.

All the people in the UK who are at risk statically speaking now have had their 1st vaccine (and many their second). It's only a matter of time now before the masses realise this and start to demand their lives back.

I don't think things will ever be back to how it was just over 12 months ago, some will be straining at the leash to get out and about, for some it's been life changing in how they might interact with others in the future, being out in public places, work places etc and will remain cautious.

I won't be rushing out anytime soon where there are crowds of people even after the jabs, I will still be cautious in public. I will still be avoiding shops etc as much as possible for the foreseeable future etc and see how it pans out.

I'm sure it will get better but too early I reckon, but it will be something that won't be eradicated and we'll just have to learn to live with it.

Tim.

Well that's the thing Tim.

I don't expect it to either with the psychological assault that's been done on the nation either. It's going to take alot of shrink bills to get some people out of the house.

All I hope for is that those people try not to inflict their beliefs on the ones that one to live again.

What is on your agenda to quell any psychological effects you’ve been suffering?

I’m going to tax the jallopy and have a few tootles out. Other than been a bit bored I’ve embraced the situation.

If I was suffering the 1st thing I would do is 100% cut out the news.

If you understand basic human physiology and have any background in sales or marketing you can see how dangerous it to the human psyche.

For the risk of teaching you how to suck eggs bad/scary/life threatening news gets more clicks/interaction/footfall/eyes/sharing than good news.

The business model for the media is getting the above.

They are never going to feed you good news when their salary depends on revenue.

You consciously (or not) are getting a completely biased view of everything in order for the papers/media to make money.

An illustration shown via people (on here) are so entwined In the above that the only way they can feel safe is have my basic human rights removed (of what I choose to put in my body) as they are convinced that anyone who is not will cause mutations and lead to their and everyone else's death.

When the realities are is that there have been 100's of mutations already and none have any great difference on the deaths so far. The mean age for covid deaths is older than the life expectancy of someone living in the UK (please fact check me on this as I may be wrong- it was right at one point I am sure).

This is not to rational and is fueled by the likes of the MSM competing for your attention.

If you are feeling down. Stop watching the news each day- or at least limit your time doing so. It will help.

100% this. Get out of the house for a drive and a walk.

Get some sun on you, get somewhere new, fresh air in your lungs and miles in your legs.

You can legally walk with anyone now if you are concerned about the law.

We are now off to some woods that are 10miles away (20 if you plan the journey right) to give the dog a walk.

Tbh my dog has probably been a saviour for me over this whole period. Having someone that needs looking after and the unconditional love he gives back has been very welcome.

Hello, been a while... We are getting our 2nd jabs here in the states and infection rate is down considerably. Hospital beds no longer filled with Covid patients. Really it is making a significant change... Plus the phycological benefit of knowing if we do catch it we are not going to die of it is allowing shut ins like myself to venture back out. We have put off essential trips that now need to get done like a trips to the dentist, doctor, and motor vehicle duties. Wife wants to see her Mum too. So some benefits will be ending soon.
Get those jabs and stay safe.
I've driven 1500 miles of back country roads in the Boxa since Aug to entertain myself. Now time to mix in some socially distanced activities like RC airplane flying at the club.
