This is correct but equally people who tested positive more than 28 days ago but then die are not included. A study of 40 000 people with covid-19 discharged from hospital for 140 days found a readmission rate of 31% (23% within 60 days), with 9% dying on readmission - I suspect that more than compensates for those who tested positive but died other reasons. In the early days some people died from covid without having a test and were therefore excluded.

Anyway perhaps a more reliable data source is the ONS which does not have a test cut off date. It relies on death certificates where covid 19 is mentioned. 90% of these mentions are in part 1 - ie the cause or causes that led directly to death as opposed to contributing to it. Before anyone decides to criticise certification they should know that death certification is a serious matter and is done diligently and under strict professional standards that would be subject to serious disciplinary consequences if done carelessly.

ONS deaths where covid is mentioned (up to 5th Feb) = 119,222
Gov.uk reported numbers (up to 5th Feb) = 111,264

Even if you discount ALL of the secondary ONS Death certificate mentions (so excluding your bus example) you only get down to 107,000 which is near as dammit the same as the government reported figures. My conclusion is that there is not very much mileage in disputing either of these numbers
[/quote]Interesting article in Mail this weekend when one of there reporters' father was found to have Covid 19 recorded on his death cert as being the cause of death despite having tested negative 3 times in the care home. When challenged the doctor admitted that he had recorded Covid as there were several such deaths in the care home and assumed his chronic and well documented lung condition had been Covid. I just wonder how many have actually died of Covid rather than with Covid. I still suspect a lot less than the figures show.

One for here I thought.

There is a proper academic study taking place on this subject (immunity) - we have both signed up to it.
It asks mainly lifestyle questions and will take only ten minutes to complete.

It looks at the immune system / diet / sleep / exercise/ vitamin supplements/ medication etc

It’s nothing like some of the previous nonsense some have posted on here - I’m sure the increased database will help their study .

It is followed up by asking you to complete an anti body Test Even if vaccinated or not.

Anyone else dreading the press conference this afternoon?

"Woffle, Woffle Wolffle. Empty promises, move the goal posts, nothing changes"

That is true Ronk,

If you are going to banging that vaccine drum (already vaccinated more than 25% of the country and 90% of where the deaths come from) then there comes a point where you have to have some conviction and open things back up.

I just hope it’s all done in a more controlled manner - I detect a change in his (Boris) approach to the situation over these recent days ? It sounds to me like he has been listening to a different group of people.

I hope he finds some balance for the sake of the Leisure and Hospitality industry.

If these jabs are as good as he says they are then they need to open up pronto IMHO.

He has to consider that some have not and some will not have the jab. Let the boffins decide this time.

The jab is only good if it’s in the arm.

Looks to me like he is opening up sector by sector but only when it coincides with the various age groups getting the vaccine. When we open up fully in July it is anticipated that all over 40s and possibly all adults will have been offered at least one jab. Think he has got the balance about right. The worst case scenario would be for business to make all these plans then a month later have to lock down again. Think he is making sure this time that ain't going to happen

I detected a change on Boris's attitude tonight?
I think he may be listening to some other advisors this time around and he didn't rule out a vaccine passport which will no doubt annoy a few!

Maybe the mother of his latest child is now advising him.

I think vaccine passports for foreign travel are coming whether we like it or not. Realistically we can't stop asking countries asking for it especially as Covid zero is now ruled out. I don't think the government will have the courage to introduce it for internal use though.

I think Ronk is on the windup with it.

They can't organise track and trace so God knows how they would manage an internal vax passport.

Definitely not a wind up!
It was mentioned on the press conference this evening and there was a bit of looking at one another.

I agree their ability to organise something like that is rather suspect but there some of the foil hat brigade who would have you believe “they” will be able to track and control us after the vaccination - that is if they haven’t culled us all by mid summer!

I think it's like vorn said- for sure there probably will be one for travel but I can't see even the most manipulated amongst us wanting others to have a passport for going to the shops and the government having the power to stop people that haven't had their experimental vaccine getting a pint of milk.

We haven't gone that mad yet have we?

Manipulated

Manipulated:
handle or control (a tool, mechanism, information, etc.) in a skilful manner.
or
control or influence (a person or situation) cleverly or unscrupulously.

One would be very surprised if you/we haven't been influenced in one way or another by our government though it's policy, decision making or via the media channels that it uses.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to suggest that a rational and sane human being would need to be highly manipulated to think that it would be a good idea to force people (especially under the age of 40) to participate in a mass vaccination program and take away their human rights should their opinion and circumstances differ from your own.

If you don't agree with this then I hear that Communist Russia, China and Korea are perhaps the place for you as you about about 80 years to late for eastern Europe where you would have loved the late 30's/early 40's.
