Whilst the bald facts of this do sound a bit off, don't forget that the Pfizer vaccine comes in large batches (I believe 975 doses was mentioned?). Once defrosted it all has to be used within 3 or 4 days max.
To me, it makes sense that if you are unable to get 975 people of the right groups to turn up in time then you should jab others who are to hand rather than waste it.
Obviously I have no idea if this was indeed the case here, but just think the full facts should be understood before we all get upset about the injustice of it.
