That feeling when you first drove your Z4

Haven't got mine yet, but since I've been actively looking for a Z4. I keep "dreaming" about what it will feel like once I first drove her away with her top off. Getting a 3.0 btw. :) Cannot wait

Terror and excitement in equal measure. I went from a bog standard 1.6 02 Focus Zetec for six years, to an authentic two seater sports car. The buzz of that day will live with me forever. Huge relief I made it the 60 miles home I have to be honest! I spent the next month looking at it.

I went from a 1.0 corsa b to a 3.0 :D that was one hell of a change, the accelerator kept surprising me, glad i had a 140mile journey home to enjoy it but the snow wasnt so fun

Drive home from the garage was, dull. Drizzling with rain roof up and to top it all a police car following for most of the 30miles home, down the A38. :tumbleweed: :(

Next day however. 8) :driving:

I was petrified yet v v excited. Had been driving 1.2 Polo then bought an ///M, drove it back alone from Chichester to London, took wrong turn ended up near Portsmouth, lots of motorways. I'd never used a 6th gear before :D

Hottest day of last year (30 degree's IIRC) had a 4 hour drive home and actually had to put the roof up and aircon on as I was getting burnt  lol
Loved every minute of the drive but is a little slow compared to my previous car.

Well I remember it well.

My daily driver is a MINI Clubman Cooper D which is pokey enough but it has a VERY short bonnet and very flat back.

Driving my Zed home in the dark, round a load of twisties following my wife in the rain was really quite nerve racking. Totally wasn't used to the total lack of visibility of the front end or remembering how far back in it I'm sitting.

It's not that I've never had a sports car before (had everything from westfields, elises, exiges, s2000, 911 turbo etc) but the Zed was the most nerve racking pickup of them all.

Still haven't really got used to the length of the bonnet yet, really tough to judge it!

Also not knowing how much real poke the 3.0i has didn't help, as I was almost expecting it to slip and slide about out of every corner - I've now realised that this isn't the case!!

It's my first roadster ,never been in one before, so didn't know what to expect, but 5min with the roof down and i was sold :D

It's been over 10 years now. I remember having a grin from ear-to-ear driving top down on that sunny day going to my GF's house to show it off :D :D !! I think what sold me, and I think the dealer had this set-up in advance, as I was test driving the car, a couple of kids yelled out "I Like your Car!" Well, ok, I did go to the dealership just to look(with checkbook in hand) and went from driving my Ford Taurus to my Z4 in 2 hours time  Not afraid at all :driving:

was a sad day for me having downgraded to the zed... I done it for the right reasons mind you... just finding it hard to have such a slow car... :(

maybe should have stuck to what I know and just got the M version and not the 3.0

such is life....

it is nice driving about with the roof down mind you.... so not all bad...

:driving:

Downgraded? Well look at you charlie big potatoes

"Damn, this is slow!"
Much slower than epected by a car that should be good for 5,9 sec. to 62/100.

My standard 2008 Seat Leon Cupra (240 HP) felt much faster! Turbo vs straight six, i know..
The Z is quick from 0 and up throug 1. and 2. gear - but it feels reeeeealy slow in the mid-accelerations. The Cupra was in from nearly 2000 RPM and all the way up..

And my second thourght: I miss noise from that exhaust! (SG foam removed = :D ) My earlier 2.8 Z3 got a better soundtrack from exhaust.

...and after that: I hate these run flats! It drives like a bathtub!

......and then I focused og the ratteling and squeeking from the roof.

But all that dosen't matter - I really love the car, the engine and the design!

mine was when I was pulling it off the drive of the previous owner.... prior to that I had 3 months driving experience in a citreon saxo.... BIG difference.... manged to put it in reverse at a set of lights and almost backed it into a brand new mercedes

Think the feeling was FINALLY, tried quite a few before I found one that felt right and two years later it's still a great car.

First one was when I drove #69 away from her previous owner. Lots of thoughts around the great noise and "my, this bonnet is long"

Second time was driving IMmie home in the snow and realising that an M was a different beast altogether...

Having LITERALLY just finished my first drive - i guess i can comment here :D

Needless to say, driving it home for the first time reminded the reason i wanted it - it's a brutal beast that's frighteningly fast, handles solidly and makes you giggle and grin for the whole journey. When it's sunk in that my new toy is waiting outside then i'll post again with some piccies and a bit of a review! :)

Thoroughly recommend going out right now and buying a Z4...

4months ago, drove it back from Kent. I just couldnt take my eyes off that huge bulbous bonnet. It felt like I was driving a proper sports car. First ever 2seater sports car and just loved the low slung driving position. :driving:

First drive home around 150 miles & kept thinking out the corner of my eye, is everyone looking at me or the car?
