That feeling when you first drove your Z4

I sold my 1.3CDTi corsa on the Thursday and bought the z on the Saturday. Had a lovely probably 180mile drive from Gourock north of Glasgow down to the southern tip of the lake district with it, absolute mesmerising I'll never forget that drive home. Couldn't get a seconds sleep the whole night before.

My thought process on the test drive a fortnight ago went like this:

Bloody hell, been a while since I got in a car as low as this.

Hmmmm, nice driving position.

Oh, another car which has rear visibility of a postbox. And no parking sensors.

Nice smooth auto box.

Wow, everything about this car feels better engineered and much more solid than any of my last four Alfas.

Feels very planted on the road - feels like I can 'trust' the rear end.

Oooooh it has a sport button. :-)

(Onto motorway sliproad with sport engaged) Hmmmm its pretty quick I guess.

Shame it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. :-(

It feels very dark and claustrophobic in the cabin on a sunny day, should I consider the roadster?

Nah - I reckon this'll make a great daily.

*puts deposit down.

I collect it next weekend - really looking forward to it. :-)

A mile from the garage back to my house. Very uneventful.

Then got it taxed and went for a spin down to the lakes by South Cerney. The first time I engaged Sport mode i burst out laughing :)

How many members remember what music they were listening to? Best of Cafe Del Mar this end.

I bought my car from Kent so had a fair drive home, I sold my 911 SC on the Wednesday and picked up the ///M on the Friday, my first impression was how much more modern a car the ///M was and then how much quicker too :driving:

It was raining on and off so took it steady but managed, unintentionally, to spin the wheels pulling away from the Dartford Crossing, scarred me a bit tbh but made me grin for the next 150 miles and every trip subsequently :D

Agh I remember it like yesterday! :D it was 78 degrees outside beautiful sun was almost as beautiful as the Z it was a perfect sunny day. The Z is my first and only car (youngest member?)

STUPID DOG RUINED THE SHOT!!!

Funny Darren, when I was test driving my first Z I did the same thing, opposite direction, completely unintentional... Had exactly the same effect on my face :D ...Though I had put Sport on and stuck it in manual quite deliberately

When I bought mine 4 years later, I got up at 5.30am so I could get a train into London, across London, then back out to Surrey to be at the dealer's bang on 9am. Checked the car, swiped my card, grabbed the keys, jumped in, thought 'finally - yay !', put the roof down and drove the 60 miles home in glorious sunshine wearing a big grin that has pretty much never gone away. Tiesto on the stereo. Brilliant feeling 8)

Some great stories / experiences here guys. Didn't think there would be so many replies to my "first" public thread. I really cant wait. There is a grey one near me with red interior and pretty much every option bar sat nav which I'm hoping to bit up.

I got mine from a dealer in leeds about 100miles away.

Never seen it in the flesh just pictures, never drove a 3.0 only a 2.5 before.

Got there waited while the had issues contacting my bank for payment.

When i finally got let lose on it and sat in it.... Loved the sport steering wheel and sport seats. Wasnt as fast as i expected... And then had to work out how to use the nav to get home, and realised it was s**t!

I spent ages faffing with picking the right track, to play all of 20 seconds of it (Trance Energy 2010, for lack of being able to find a white stripes album..)... to then turn it off, and just listen to the engine :D

The rear end will step out. Take it easy be ready for it

i remember it vividly. it was a cold march evening, temp was showing 5 celcius on the dash and i asked my 14 year old brother if he wanted the roof up or down. he said down, so i spent 55 miles freezing my nuts of (although heated seats work wonders), testing the acceleration and in gear speeds :D half way through we pulled over so his twin sister could have a ride. she loved it, and i couldn't stop smiling.

i can still remember looking up and seeing the star covered sky as it was a clear night. such a great experience.

Guy I bought it off took me for a ride in it before I bought it.

He drove down a narrow street f***ing fast and I was petrified lol.

The car also felt big, spacious and cosy. It also felt a bit dangerous!

Only my second car, the difference between a Z4 and a Pegeot 306 was quite large and took some getting used to lol. I now can drive the Z very confidently and love every single moment in it.

I have had my 2007 Z4 coupe for exactly a week now. Traded in my Swift 1.5.

I bought it in Edinburgh, and drove all the way to Cairnryan which was great as it gave me some time to get accustomed to it. Then the ferry back to Belfast. Was terrified driving out of the BMW dealership, there must have been a few hundred thousand pounds worth of cars surrounding me and I thought "please don't hit those cars!" The bonnet - so long compared to the swift, where I could practically see and know exactly where the car ended. :) For me at least, it was quite the upgrade and utterly exhilarating to drive away with such a nice thing. I drive 1.7 miles to work, so a 2 seater sports car is probably daft, but damn, I don't care - I love the thing too much!

lol that'll teach me not to skim over posts in the future :D

First Post on this forum, though I've been reading it for ages!

Getting a Z4 on Saturday and can't wait to have my first proper drive! Had a decent couple of test drives, was able to get it on the motorway, but really I was very concious of having the dealer man next to me. :)

It is only my second car, first being a 1.0 107, so it's a quite a big jump. I have also only been back driving 2 months after a 6 month layoff due to a head injury, but I'm all good. The main thing I'm worried about is the length of the front. Having came from a car with no front, it will take some getting used too. And make parking a lot trickier.

Anyway, I will enjoy my drive to work next week, as I usually work at 7 and it's fast roads all the way with no traffic at that time! :D

I remember when i went test drive it. I didn't know what to expect. I got in, ajusted the seat and mirrors and fell in love. I pulled out slowly, treated her like a girl i had just met and i was in bed wih for the first time. The guy kept telling me it had a sport button and asked me to press it. That's when I realized that my baby was a beast! Shivers ran down my spine as the exhaust roared. THAT WAS THE BEST FEELING IN THE WHOLE WORLD!

Jym. I always love to cane a new car I am testing with the sales person there. They are stuck. They can't try to sell a sports car and then tell you to slow down.
