Tempted by this... UPDATE: It's home...

I'm not sure on tyre sizes. There was a notable difference. The 18" AMG wheels on the estate were firm but comfy enough. The 19" AMG wheels I tested on a saloon and were very firm.

The estate suspension could be softer, skewing the result. Plus I'm getting air suspension on mine which should help comfort. Making me wonder on the best option.

Have you test driven one with the air suspension? I was tempted to spec it, but the salesman said it really doesn't do a great deal. Admittedly I didn't drive one with air suspension so can't comment first hand. I tested saloons with both the 18s and 19s...the 18s were definitely a better ride.

No, I couldn't find one to test but ordered it anyhow. All the reviews I've seen span 'no difference' to 'more comfortable' for Air Suspension. Its £895, not the earth, so I thought I'd take the risk. At the very least it gives me adjustable ride and height control. I think I'm going to stick with 18" as its not like I'm going between 17" and 20". It has to help the ride and that's important in a daily barge. While I love the 19" on my e89, I do find myself constantly scanning the road for imperfections to avoid that little ridge that makes the car go 'bang'. So whatever it takes to allow me a more relaxed ride in the Merc is what's going to happen. I just feel the 19" suits the car's look better.

Yeh, the 19's definitely suit the car better, but being in the same position I thought the 18s looked good enough and ride was important to me.

I think you've made the right choice, have you got a delivery date?

I'm told the last week of March all being well. The only fly in the ointment seems to be about the camera. I've been told I can't have the 360 camera without having to wait until July or longer so I've had to remove that from the order which is a shame. Something to do with an issue discovered in them and they're in short supply. I've since been told though that there may be an issue with the 'comes as standard' reversing camera for the same reasons though, which is delaying all new builds. I can't believe they'd allow that to happen or ship without a standard feature. The dealer feels it shouldn't be an issue as they're simply changing the spec of a car already ordered by them and that the reversing camera would already have been a stock item. We'll see...

I reckon you've both done the right thing by going with the 18" wheels. I would definitely do the same, tho agree the 19"s do look good.

The 18"s are similar to those on my SLK which are a doddle to clean.

I got a quote recently from an online broker, which I intend to use for bargaining with Glasgow Mercedes, but in terms of value for money and the spec of car, the C class is a very wise choice for an every day car I reckon.

Only thing worrying me is the stalk for the gear selector (accidentally moving it while driving?). :? :cry:

Unless you have your foot on the brake nothing happens, I've done it a few times going for the windscreen wipers :oops:

I actually like the stalk, makes maneuvering around very simple, far easier to use (for an automatic novice such as myself) than a conventional automatic gear stick.

StevenH72, exactly! I am used to everything being controlled on the left stalk on the SLK but if something was over at the right side I'm sure I would use it! I know you just nudge it up or down for Neutral if it's in D or R but need to move if past a point of resistance to engage D or R.

It's the same on the SLK actually, you need to have foot on brake to get it out of Park.

So the car is now confirmed by the factory and should be with me late March.

The basic car: C200 Petrol Estate (182bhp turbo 4 pot, 7.7 seconds 0-62). Currently the only pure petrol version available as I don't want a noisy diesel and I don't care about MPG, life's too short.
The trim level: AMG Line ( currently the top of the range model );
AMG Line adds, over the SE entry model ;

Active parking assist incl. PARKTRONIC
Folding rear-seat backrests
Garmin® MAP PILOT
Sports suspension
LED Non Adaptive Headlamps
AMG bodystyling
Wheel-arch widening for AMG wheels
18" AMG 5-spoke alloy wheels
Front seats - heated / Manual adjusting
Interior lighting package (not ambient)
AMG Line Interior
AMG Line Exterior
Parking Package
Mirror Package
Run-flat tyres
Floor mats in black with "AMG” lettering

Further options;

Brilliant Blue exterior colour
Light Grey interior Leather
19” AMG Multi-spoke Alloy Wheels
Black Open Pore (matte) Ash wood trim
7 Speed Automatic Transmission
Privacy Glass
Air Balance Package (Interior Air fragrance and Ionisation)

In addition;

Premium Plus Package (which encompasses);

Hands-Free Access (keyless entry/exit and sensor activated boot open/close)
Keyless GO
COMAND Online (iDrive equivalent with voice control, music HD etc)
Adjustable Lumbar Support
Panoramic Sliding Glass Sunroof
Traffic Sign Assist
Burmester Surround Sound System
Ambient Lighting ( with colour and brightness control )
Illuminated Door Sill strips with ‘Mercedes-Benz’ lettering
DVD/CD Player
Centre console cup holders
Analogue Central Clock
Live Traffic Information
Remote Online
Passenger/Drivers Seats and mirrors, heated, electrically adjustable with memory.

…and to close the list;

AirMatic Agility Package (Semi Active Air Suspension with variable height and damping)
LED Intelligent HeadLight System - high-performance headlamps (adaptive with high beam assist)

Almost ‘fully loaded’ as the saying goes. The only things I omitted were the 360 camera, which I wanted but there’s a production issue upon so I opted not to have it to save the car being delayed by months. Also HUD as I don’t like anything in my view of the road (plus its just shy of a grand) and the ‘Nanny’ pack which is a £1500 lane assist/blindspot/etc which as I like to drive rather than the car was an option I could live without. The basic car has the de-rigueur emergency stop radar stuff and some other nanny options I can’t remove anyhow.

I’m quite looking forward to it.

The Burmester sound system, fwiw, is absolutely fantastic. I'd never heard of them before, but since getting my car, I haven't listened to music so loudly for many years.

Am sure this will be a lovely addition Maniac.

Looks like a fantastic spec.

I followed one of the new C class estates with the AMG kit on this morning and it looked fantastic. I think it was cavansite blue and amongst the sea of silver insignias and white 3 series it looked very smart indeed!

Look forward to the full review and pics when it arrives! :thumbsup:

I like the canvasite blue, its almost black until the light hits it which makes it interesting. The brilliant blue looks a mid blue until the light hits it, esp the sun when it comes alive into all sorts of shades.

Strange how your eyes play tricks on you... I read both this and Maniac's subsequent post and found myself thinking 'Who calls a colour CaravanSite blue'.... :lol:

Lol I did exactly the same on the MB website - CARAVAN BLUE - surely not!

Although seeing the pictures Maniac has put on I think it was the same as that - Brilliant blue.

Nice car, luxury motoring, but you may as well give in now and accept that it is always going to be in caravan site blue. :)

Nah.. I'm not getting canvasite (Caravan site) blue.. I'm going for Brilliant blue, because I'm just Brilliant.

This is Caravan Site... I mean canvasite blue;

Brilliant blue is what I saw. Looks fantastic in the flesh. Lovely and shiny and such a nice change.

Good choice Brilliant, I mean Maniac. :thumbsup:

Can you still have the star mascot on the bonnet?

Or is that only for OAPs ?

You can get the one that stands up on the 'luxury' line. Which looks OAP*10 Hideous IMHO as a package;
