Talk me out of a Merc

MUCH easier than talking someone into one.

The SLK is horrid. Styling looking like a Vauxhall Astra with implants.

If you buy a Micra, at least noone would think that you were older than if you were drivng a Merc. :P

convinced?

Nothing wrong with being old :poke:

The Merc was on a 2 year lease by the way, loads off lease offers on Merc's at the mo, says it all really!!!
So we were comparing apples to
oranges all along. The reason I was baffled by the price difference.

Not really, i've looked into lease prices on the Zed and to get the spec I wanted wasn't far off the dealer price. Like i said Mercs are flooding the lease
Fair enough. Not to sure of the differences between lease agreements and hp ect. But it doesn't look like a "like for like" comparison. I'd buy the slk just for a change (not diesel)
or keep your existing car as you suggested.

You should compare what you have now with what you might like to own.
How do they suit your driving style, mileage, business image, and pocket?

I doubt the residuals will be as strong on a diesel sports car as one might expect by the performance of other body shapes. Not because of petrol head snobbery but because there are no benefits in diesel if you do short journeys.

I hear the SLK 350 is good though.

Are residuals good on any new cars these days?? Personally I think they are both good cars but different types of buyers.....I don't think a real car enthusiast would buy the Mercedes, generally speaking, it's a little bland....someone with more car knowledge is more likely to buy a Z....

I still think the RCZ is better than the Merc, but it's not convertible

A 'real car enthusiast' ? I think you mean Z4 enthusiast.

Plenty of those on other forums buying other marques.

The Z4 can be a pretty hellish compromise for those whose real enthusiasm is focused on other aspects of their vehicle. I personally wouldn't have a Z4 as my only car. It's great fun on the right sort of day but can be an irritating claustrophobic grind on the wrong sort of day. The SLK sits as a bit less extreme at both ends of the scale.

I think that's true of the e85/e86 certainly, I owned one and yes there were days where I loved it and others where I hated it (ride quality certainly). We're talking about the e89 here though, an entirely different animal and more akin to the Merc in comfort and usability.

Not sure they're giving them away, only offer I can see on the SLK is for CDI Blue Efficiency, APR isn't too bad but contribution is nothing to shout about and you still have fork out over 19k if you want the car after 3 years.

I quite like them but as most are Autos I don't know what the manual would be like, just not as sleek as the Zed :)

Tim.

i posted a pic in a topic couple months back

my mum has the SLK R172 with AMG pack, just a 200

interior on the SLK's are pretty lush, drive wise its just "nice" more of a drive slow and look good car, i don't think it feels sporty enough.
