Nothing against MB, our Brabus tuned CLS320 CDI was a great motorway cruiser and was faultless in 3.5 years of ownership. The dealer and after sales experience was also much much better than BMW to date.
The latest SLK just isn't an exceptional or beautiful car. If I had to choose a convertible MB it would be the last model SL, but I'm not over 50 yet and don't play golf :wink:

I test drove the SLK and was reasonably impressed with the diesel, on full chat it doesn't sound like a tractor at all. I would suggest that you test drive one and decide for yourself. Performance wise it is similar to the 2.0 ltr zed, my review is below

I meant Sars - Audi are only interested in Le Mans because they have very little direct competition. Their boss of motorsport is quite frank and open about it. That's why they'll never do F1 because they can't GUARANTEE they will win.

The one reply that got me thinking was keep the zed I have!!
I could pay the balloon, get some new rims (dont like my multi spokes really) and a detail clean done it will look like a new car. I've only done 32k miles so that's no prob, just no warranty but can extend it for £700ish if I want to.
The main thing on a new one is that the payment of £560 a month was for private purchase and I get my cars through my business and that way will cost £700 a month as the dealer is telling me they get more help from BMW for private purchases!!
The Merc was on a 2 year lease by the way, loads off lease offers on Merc's at the mo, says it all really!!!

As long as you have at least two teams then it is a competition, the OP didn't state that it was the pinnacle of the sport, just that a diesel won Le Mans which is still some achievement. More importantly the diesel in the SLK, does not sound like a diesel under hard acceleration, no clatter, just a deep throaty rumble.

As for a diesel in an SLK i have no quarrel with that. I don't like diesels and wouldn't buy one for myself but that doesn't mean i think they shouldn't make one. I don't want a turbocharged engine either (petrol or diesel) but they suit a lot of buyers and make a lot of sense.

Not really, i've looked into lease prices on the Zed and to get the spec I wanted wasn't far off the dealer price. Like i said Mercs are flooding the lease companies with special offers and BMW aren't!!
I'm going to get a lease price from Niche see how they compare.
Still think that keeping the 2.3i changing the wheels (keeping the multi spokes with winter set up on) and giving her a good detail might be the way to go!!
