This is all getting a bit off-topic.

Have you had a go in any E89 OG ?
I hadn't even considered one until this weeks net search revealed their fate & could be tempted into one around the £13k mark ?
Higher miles not really a issue for me as unlikely to add more than 3k/5k a year so a 70/80k car could be a cheap way in for me ?

A year ???? When did you last have a car for a year :poke:

:D you read through 6 pages of constructive posts & pulled me on my achilles heel  i aim to keep mrs ws X3 a full 12 months  its my plan to avoid vehicle depreiation which has ravaged me for the vast majority of my motoring life , sadly only rectified the last 5 years

There are at least some benefits with ageing - the wisdom it brings softens the blow of the other bits!!

I think the price is also more seasonal being a roadster. We may be selling our 2009 35i in the summer if we can decide on what car to get next, but after spending 6 hours at the Geneva show last Friday we're still undecided. Interesting to note that there were no e89s on the BMW stand at Geneva.

I hope there isn't any M badges on the outside of mine when it arrives, they'll be coming off if there is, the inside i'll have to live with. It doesn't really matter but i'd rather it doesn't try to look like something it isn't.

you cant do that .. you would have just de valued your car as it will not be 100% original any more !!

if you have ordered a 35is .. then you will have M badges

Back off topic sorry......ANY BMW with the words M Sport in the title and the 35is have little ///M badges on the wings. First noticed this trend on several 320d thinking wtf? Then it became an addition towards the middle of last year on the E89. It's just not a good look in my opinion and you can order it without them. If you specify Debadged it only removes the Z4, model number and sdrive badges but not the ///M ones  Surley if you want no badges that's means none at all.

Anyways back on topic and lets start a sweep on when Mr Wilks will have one grace his drive :driving:
When I ticked the debadge on my 35i the ///M ones we're removed as well :?

Possibly luck of the draw but I know of three people who've requested de badges and still had the little M Badges on it. Even someone on here had the same.

Just get it with the badge's and then take them of so you still have them they are handy if you were to get a small dink in that area that's what I did

admittedly, i just skipped ~every page of this - but ... i'm missing why people are surprised cars depreciate?

Maybe E85's arent as bad now because they're so old they're bottoming out, and the M's are a bit of a special case - but by all means, an E89 is a standard BMW and would depreciate exactly the same as 'other' bmws. Arguably over winter there's a chance moreso with it being a vert.

With regards to a new Z, it's due inside the next ~2 years apparently.

Or if you read reports published in the last 48 hours it seems it might be just before 2020 if not after. Funnily enough due to lack of sales so no real rush for a new one yet.

Thanks Angie, interesting information regarding timescales and that they potentially intend to keep selling the current model up to then.

Even with the seasonal upsweep of convertible prices there are still cheap E89s around if you arent mega fussy on spec/trim level

Hi

For example ... My 35is drive fully loaded had a list price of £52k .. I paid £38k new with discounts

The car is 5 months old and I had a offer of £32k (don't panic not selling) .. but on the plus side we get to purchase these cars new at a good price in the 1st place ..

regards

Ooft! And all on Gumtree. I'm sure there are some real gems on there but there always seem to be a lot of Kak and I'm always wary of someone who doesn't want to spend money on an advert on somewhere like Auto Trader

You also need to remember that it's only in the past year that been the case. Others have paid top dollar even in the months preceding the discounts. You've been fortunate to buy whilst the discounts have and are still being applied.

All but the biggest dealers will sell you a new Zed and pre register it with the garage and pass the full VAT saving onto the customer which of course they claim back. This means a saving of 20% on a new car so no wonder the prices of second hand ones are dropping. I would never buy a new car any other way now having bought my last two like that

Low dealer price is all good - but it probably also reflects on any trade in price?

But there will be some who on paper it says it was a list price of say £52k but they paid £32k and then they are offered 15-17k for it after a couple/few years and are like wtf that's a £52k car completely disregarding how much they actually paid for it. I've seen that happen a lot with people who bought cheap E90s which were heavily discounted.

Then there will be others that did pay £52k or more a month or so before the discounts and these people will be the hardest hit and will be pretty annoyed and quite rightly so. Values would decrease but not the way they have thanks to the discounts. Saying that it's still difficult to find a 35is on the cheaps. Yes there will always be depreciation but holly smoke not like that. It's what you'd expect from an infinity.

Maybe in a few years when all these 'discounted' ones make it on to the market we will see an impact? But then for those people before the discounts who bought on the never, never I wonder what BMW will do there. They will have given a Guaranteed final value which will now be way off I assume.

The GFV is only applicable on finance though, and they won't care about the private buyers really as their business model is on shifting fleet cars.

Indeed but some will be thinking I might have a bit of money to play with for a new car, most if not all will have been told it will be worth X amount after X years and there may even be a bit more to put towards a new car.....eh not on your nelly! That's the chat I've always had from dealers when they want to push finance even though I'm paying cash.

WBAC will offer me £26,200 for my 13 plate 35iS which is mint with 4K miles on it. I paid £30,000 7 months ago after putting 3K down.

My BMW dealer is looking into figures for me but doesn't think he can get where I would need to be to change cars ... which makes me think WBAC is way out or something is not adding up. That said he has yet to come back to me.
