Surprised with falling E89 used values

I see more and more dealers make money on the return of the cars and try to niggle on every ounce of extra miles, road rash to the alloys, stone chips etc etc....less and less, you should expect any cash back if handing back and hoping to have some deposit money to play with

WBAC will offer me £26,200 for my 13 plate 35iS which is mint with 4K miles on it. I paid £30,000 7 months ago after putting 3K down.

My BMW dealer is looking into figures for me but doesn't think he can get where I would need to be to change cars ... which makes me think WBAC is way out or something is not adding up. That said he has yet to come back to me.

You're not going to jump ship are you?

Probably not but you never know ! I keep looking at the LCI M135i ... but I think I need one as well as the 35iS !!

The second fault on the Z4 in a month (not major at all or like my last black 35iS but annoying nonetheless) made me pen an email asking for prices. The other half would like me to sell but I think in reality nothing will happen.

Hi

You just reminded me of a question that I was going to ask, like the E85 Z4M's do you have to do the 1200 mile running in oil change ? my supplied documentations says no .. plus my dealer says no ? so a question to the forum experts .. do I need to this? also would it be a good thing to do if I decided to sell at at a later date ?

thanks in advance

No 1200 miles oil change on the 35iS. I had a Z4 M Roadster and the first thing I looked for in the service book was the 1200 service. Not required with the 35iS thankfully though :)

Talked to 2 engineers who help develop BMW engines. Both said, independently, it’s best to have a 2000km/1200 mile oil+filter change plus it’s best to change the oil at half that advised by the car. The no early oil+filter change & extended drain periods are to appease fleet owners, yes the engine can deal with it it but it's a bit like saying the engine can also take running on watered down monkey pi$$, just because it can doesn't make it a good idea to actually do.

In terms of selling, to a dealer no advantage. To a private buyer, the fact you took the time to have it would make me think you actually looked after your car really well ;)

No monthly payment on mines but in 16 months 3k miles is what I've done. I knew I didn't need a new car when I changed just fancied one and do think yeah I should have kept the E88 with less than 19k on the clock at 5 years old but I wouldn't be as fun :driving:

Think your wrong there, most people are not forumites or into maintaining there own car and will only care about the Dealer stamps imo :)

To an enthusiast yes, to joe public then as metal licker says they won't bother. You will have a stamp but then some may ask why it was done so soon after it was first registered amd maybe think the worst but I'm sure after explaining why they will understand your logic.

You wont have to worry much about the 1200 mile service, the 2 year service will come first  :poke:
