Does it have batteries in it? Its not the fact that its a phone, its the fact that if its an electrical device it has the potential to produce an ignition spark. I know the chances are thin but even so..............

Can I throw a curve ball in?
Why not use normal fuel and then add your own fuel additive?
I personally use archoil and my car runs fine, and has done for the last 5 and a half years. I get 34mpg which ain’t bad.

Used to use a mix of normal and v-power, but recently use BP, Esso. Personally I find BP is better for my car, but that is subjective.

I can’t justify the hugh difference in normal and super fuel nowadays especially as I don’t feel any difference.

Mate.

The pumps didn’t blow up.

There were no casualties.

I got the shots needed for my film.

End of! :driving:

What do you do with your phone while using the pumps?
Is it in your pocket or do you leave it in the car every time?
There is a thread in the gallery with masses of pics of Zs in the petrol station.

I dont use mine in a plane , a helicopter, in the cinema or anywhere else thats antisocial but my phone is always in my pocket.
Although I do not use it in petrol stations either there is always the chance that someone could ring me or send a message, this I imagine would be the same as using the camera.
I wouldnt think there would be many people who will leave their phone in the car especially these days with bluetooth where the phone doesnt need to be plugged in.

I’m pretty sure my phone is perfectly safe to use at a petrol station. Cars are much more likely to cause a problem what with all that hot engine & electrics all parked right next to the pump. Especially when you see the state of some cars!

Time to change the subject to "phone in forecourt - yay or nay?". :)

Must admit, mine's often in my pocket when filling up. I can see why they have the warnings though - to stop people getting distracted in what can be quite a dangerous area and possibly also because of ignition risk - but there are so many others things that could be an issue. Digital watches, for example, won't be certified for use in explosive environments either, and often they'll be centimetres from the pump.

Nothing to do with being antisocial..its to do with interference with instruments and being an ignition source, i flew in helicoptors for many years and had to turn back a few times because someone had sneaked on a mobile and it was causing instruments to give false readings

Its not

It is.

It is a myth, there hasn't been a single petrol station fire in the world that was attributed to a mobile phone.

Scientific tests have shown that there is no hazard, hence it being a myth. Have a google if you don't believe me.

So the companies that run these forecourts are perfectly happy for you to be on your phone whilst on the forecourt?

“Mobile phones are not designed and certified for use in explosive atmospheres which exist temporarily around the pump and nozzle during refuelling as well as around the fill and vent pipes during petrol deliveries.

“Such use is expressly forbidden by law under the conditions of the petroleum licence and associated guidance.

“Whilst the risk of incendive sparking from mobile phones is low, they are not intrinsically safe devices and should not be used in those hazardous areas that exist on a forecourt.

Where did I say they would be? The fact is they have never, and will never cause a fire because there is no risk. The only reason I don't use my phone at petrol stations is because I don't want the hassle of being told off by someone who works there.

Sounds like all of that comes from petrol stations/ petroleum companies. Doesn't make it fact that they are a risk. Which they have been proven, scientifically, to not be.

Mobile phone companies would never certify every single one of their handsets to be used in explosive atmospheres, it would be expensive, time consuming, and ultimately pointless.

'Not intrinsically safe devices' What a load of old cobblers.

You clearly aren't going to change your mind so I will leave it there.
