Strange locking issue

Well so much for the marvellous 4-pot!
All ready to tax and run it tomorrow so went out to do tyres, oil, water etc.
Won't unlock with either key? Nothing happens at all. Previously checked both keys worked fine.
So I unlocked it with the key in the door.
No interior lights. Passenger door stays locked. Petrol flap stays locked. Windows won't wind down.
But................... it starts and runs fine?
Everything else seems to function ok.

Put my Autophix 5900 on it and it cannot communicate with the General Module.

So, thoughts from the experts please. Is this a complete failure of the GM5 or something more simple I am overlooking?

I have checked every fuse that seems in any way relevant.
Don't think it's that simple as yesterday I had to press the button a couple of times before it unlocked, but I thought it was just me having fat fingers.

OK, to add a little more to the conundrum: after googling a bit I went back to the car, disconnected the battery earth lead, waiting a minute then put it back on. Made sure both terminals were tight.
As soon as I reconnected the battery I noticed the boot light came on.
Sure enough, pressed the key button and the car unlocked, both doors and the petrol flap. All interior lights working, windows winding up and down, no problems.
So I got out, shut the door and pressed the key button. Nothing! FFS!
But, this time, if I use the key in the lock it does unlock everything, interior lights on, windows work etc.
So the battery disconnect has affected/rebooted something.
Also proves it's not a fuse issue.

What do we think? GM5 on its way out?

Not keen to use it as of course the doors lock as you set off and it it fails then I become sealed in!

I'm not sure what coding gear you have but the auto-locking can be coded off with Carly if that helps.

I have often wondered, why do the doors need to lock when you set off ? What is the purpose ? :?

Mrs Tidy liked it on her Mini because she usually put her handbag on the passenger seat so having the doors locked meant nobody could nick her bag at traffic lights!

But I really don't like it. :(

Worth swapping a gm5 over from another of the fleet?
I'm a bit confused by that Stuart. I was led to believe they're linked to the keys? Can I simply swap it then?

In the interim I have decided sod it I'm going to use it.
The roof already has a split pipe so the red ring is pulled to open it manually. To be on the safe side I now have a trim tool and an allen key in the door pocket so I can climb out though the roof. Plus a 10mm socket to see if the old battery disconnect trick works again.

You can use another GM5 and just pair it to your current keys using one of the 3-4 regular key pairing instructions that are out there.

I know this is one I always say but how old is the battery
Brand new due to a numpty auto electrician who spent two days on the car and told the previous owner it was a duff battery.
I found the centre storage light staying on

Thank you.
Stuart just referred me to your comment on his thread regarding that.
So methinks I shall see if I can find another GM5.
Does it have to be the same part number etc?
Hear a lot about the 'Star 12' version that causes problems.

Anyone got any other thoughts of what this could be before I dive into the GM5?
Whilst I can see the point of swapping one out of another car, it is a faff to link the key, then have to potentially do that again if I put it back in the original car. I'm loathe to disturb something that is working ok.
To buy a spare GM5 or get mine refurbed is about the same price so I may as well send it off.

Unless someone thinks it may be a different issue?

Brilliant. Many thanks.

Well I've been messing about with the car today and can confirm that it is failing at random intervals.
When it fails I can only unlock the drivers door. Nothing else. Centre locking button does nothing. Interior lights don't come on.
If I disconnect and reconnect the battery it reboots it all......................until the next time.
When it is in fail mode my Autophix cannot communicate with the GM5.
However, once I reset it I can then see the fault codes stored.
The only ones showing are:
0D Power Window: Open circuit Jam protection strip or loss of scaling/Error EKS electronic: Driver's door
0E Power Window: Open circuit Jam protection strip or loss of scaling/Error EKS electronic: Passenger door

I disconnected and reconnected the GM5, just in case it was a dodgy pin. Made no difference.

So I'm pretty sure its the GM5.

Now here is the issue: it's a Star 12!
Can these be swapped for any other one? Which of course would mean me coding the keys to it again.

Or can anyone recommend someone who fixes the Star 12 GM5?
