STOLEN! YL03 HCA - Update 5 - Home, for now!

So.. get a phonecall yesterday PROMISING I can get the car today..
Another one at about half 10 to say the soco officer is there and she's just finishing looking at it and I can come pick it up after lunch.

Perfect.

£15 taxi there with all my paperwork, to be told by the recovery yard that it's not been cleared by the police yet.
Argue with the woman that they've done it and told me it's clear, but she says the recovery manager (police) hasn't told them it's clear, so I can't go near it still.

Ring the police, both officers I've been dealing with are not available, but another one will chase down the details and get back to me ASAP.

An hour passes, so I say f**k it, and get a taxi back home again for another £15.

Ten minutes after getting home, the copshop rings me back (finally) and says whilst they've done their work, they're held up by red tape now, so they can't release it today and it will be tomorrow at the absolute earliest, however I shouldn't do anything more till they've given me the ok and confirm its 100% sure.
They're not sure why I was told I could go today at all, as that's not normally the case.

I didn't think it was possible to get any more angry, but I am fucking fuming right now.

that's crap, they still keep them down behind b&q?
you should deffo place a complaint about this all.

nah, over in Colwick, opposite Virgin Media.

Definately going to complain - just emailed notts post to see if they're interested.

Looks like chapter two of this woeful story has come to an end, finally.

After sending an email to the Notts post, then being interviewed and them contacting the police for a statement on the story, my car has magically been released now and is currently winging it's way to BMW on the back of a Green Flag recovery truck.

I'm off to see it at 4:30pm today, where BMW have arranged for one of their inspectors to go over it with me tooth and nail to get the full picture of any damage or repairs that are needed.

The only bad thing now is, I have to wait up to five working days for the insurance company to send their own inspector across, and with it being Easter bank holiday, It's likely to be a week on MONDAY before anyone comes to see it and BMW get the go-ahead to do any repairs at all.

Based on that, I'm not expecting to get the car back until a week on Wednesday at the absolute earliest, meaning my car would have been gone for exactly a month!

That is of course, assuming the insurance company aren't complete and utter arseholes and drag their feet getting it repaired and paid for...

Good luck with it sk93. Certainly puts my little dramas into perspective! Hard to imagine the mixed emotions of having been broken into, car snatched then the 'joy' of it being recovered, only to go through soul destroying thick red tape. The police side of things is rather impersonal but I guess it's not a priority for them. There is little empathy from the authorities in these type of cases unfortunately.

How do the insurance company/bodyshop work out whether any damage was done whilst it wastolen?

I'm talking car park dings, scratches etc, not stonechips.

Could always blag a free bumper respray

guess it's done on examination of the damage.. any rust, signs of aging, etc.

not bothering with trying to blag stuff.. as pumping the price up will just result in a write off.

anyways.. about to go out, but i've seen it and have a quick update:

generally speaking, it's in good condition.

The rear tyres have clearly been burnt out from donuts.
There's a couple of scrapes on the front bumper.
There's a small dent in the door.
Couple of new scratches on the rear bumper.
The locking wheel nut bolt for the fronts is missing, but the rear is still in the car.

No error codes being thrown (apart from the pass airbag, which was known about).
Car's only done about 70 miles since it was stolen.
No damage to the interior.
No knocking / odd noises from the engine.
Diagnoses machine claims it's "not been abused", whatever that means?
no metal in the oil.

All in all, BMW reckon it's probably still sound.
they want to do an alignment check still to ensure there's no drivetrain damage, but there's no obvious damage to the wheels / tyre walls to suggest impacts of any degree.
