STOLEN! YL03 HCA - Update 5 - Home, for now!

Ian you need to speak to BMW and get a key but get the police to confirm they have the car, then BMW will issue a key as the car is reported stolen. Then you can give the key to the police to move things on, mate of mine had same problem

cheers Neil! I'll get back on to Sytner tomorrow am.

(btw.. not forgot about your question - just waiting for my mate to see if he can get the material in question)

You would have thought that they would make a bit of effort to get it sorted. Cars are a pretty important mode of transport to most people

righteo - time for another episode of "Cops".

After a good couple of days going back and forth between my insurers, the coppers and now Sytner Nottingham, I think I finally have got things moving again!

We've now wasted six days on simply gaining access to the car.
All we needed was a valet key, but getting that seemed to be beyond the comprehension of everyone involved.

First of all, the cops said they can't do anything until my insurance authorize it.
My insurance then said they can't authorize anything, as they cant get to see the car.
The Police wont let anyone near the car, as it's currently SOCO'd, where it will remain until they can get access.. for which they said they need the insurance company.

So I came up with the idea of ringing Sytner and saying "hey up lads, please can I have a spare valet key cut for my stolen car".
Only to be (rightly) told "nope- it's stolen, we can't do that without police authorisation"
So, back to the cops, and they say they'll get in touch with sytner and get things rolling...
I then ring back sytner and ask for a key now they have police permission, for which I'm quoted £149 and to which I tell them to f**k right off
(£149 for a key that'll effectively be useless as soon as the car gets the locks changed - at Sytner, as soon as the police release it to them).

The police then say thats ok, they'll get in touch and pay for it themselves (why they didn't suggest that at the start, I don't know).
They contact sytner, sytner tell them it's £149 for a key, the police say "erm, it's normally £30?", and sytner reply "ah.. you just want a valet key then?" :headbang:

Police fill out the forms, give all the info to sytner, who then say they can't do it on invoice, they have to take payment upfront.
Police don't work that way, so they ring me again and tell them they're stuck once more, but that the cost is only £30.

I ring sytner and say "c'mon lads.. stop playing about. I just want a valet key, for the police, and I'll even pay the £30 myself".
They take payment, then say "we'll ring you when it's in, just pop down with the v5 and id and you can collect it".
I point out that I don't have the v5 - the police / insurers do...
I now have to get the police to accompany me to Sytner to collect the key, so they can present their warrant cards and allow sytner to hand over a key for a stolen car.
Luckily, the fuzz have agreed to do this.

Sytner, to give them a little credit, have said they'll try and push this through their key department as a matter of urgency, and maybe it'll arrive tomorrow morning.
So.. fingers crossed, nipples twisted, I might just get to see my car by the weekend....

hope by the weekend you have it back .but the way they have been performing next thing the guy will be on holiday that's going to look at it . best of luck hope it turns up fine

christ - what a bunch of useless mfkzerss.

tbh - get this a lot at work, and simply conference call everyone involved in and ensure it's resolved before anyone leaves!

Glad you're getting somewhere - I've dealt with both Notts Police & Notts Sytner before and i'm not surprised.

I feel for you, I really do. None of this is your fault, but it's been up to you to do all the leg work, pay for valet keys and do the associated communications to sort this out, when the police should be doing this as part of their 'investigation'.

From reading all this you would think you had the first BMW ever stolen in Nottingham!

As others have said it's not your fault and yet why are you the one trying to move things forward?

It's a great read though. I can't wait for the next installment.

this faf is ridiculous and something i have heard before. it took my mate just over a year to get his car sorted when it was nicked. it wasnt found and there was a deadlock between the police and the insurance and the police would say it was officially missing for 6 months. the insurance wouldn't do anything till the police said it missing. we used to listen to his conversations in the office between the two. eventually the time passed and then he had to chase the police to get the paperwork done so this added a few more months. eventually after 10/11 months from the start the insurance said he could have a new car (his was just over a yr old) and it was 3 weeks before a plate change so he delayed for them (well whats a few weeks on 10/11 months?)

i really hope this goes quicker for you.

he missed out on being able to qualify for the commonwealth games as he couldn't get to training and the like as he couldn't afford to hire cars all the time and it really effected his sport as hes dropped right off now. there was some reason why he had to foot this bill himself but i forget. keep at it and dont take any s**t

Probably the first they've ever found.
You can be sure they'll have little interest in finding any more stolen cars in the future. Too much hassle for them.

Good luck with it all.

na... I think they are prob charging storage fees to the insurance company... so are earning whilst its kept where it is! so in no rush:)

just read the entire post, and

1, cant believe how much stress they have caused this guy for basically there next hit of drugs.

2, im getting a gps unit and hiding it in my car.

Hope all goes well for you mate, must be a nightmare
