Speed Camera Detectors

Wondering what you were all running detector wise in your cars.

Have had an Origin b2 in my previous few cars, but cannot locate a particularly good place in the Z4C without it being wonky.

Not fussed on having a screen / speed, and as I have SatNav I don't want to use a TomTom.

Some of the 'speech' ones sound a bit tacky to me, but have limited the trial / search to the following & wondering if anyone had experience or views on them:

Bigger, requires power & has speech rather than just the beeping.

If both are poor, I'll just return them; my biggest concern is moving from a well rated Origin to a bit of an 'unknown'.

Thoughts or your installs greatly received.

I've got an Inforad K2 and it works fine sitting by the buttons above the ashtray or sitting in the speedo pod. :thumbsup:
Fits in the ashtray when not using it as well.
 
:thumbsup: Thanks for posting Colin; was exactly where I was thinking of putting it.

How you do you find the false alarms / beeping - it sounds pretty aggressive from the youtube vids I've located?

Were there any others you researched before deciding on the K2?
 
The 'beeps' can be configured to remain on whilst you are above the limit, once when you enter an area or off completely.

I've set mine to remain beeping whilst I'm above the limit in static camera areas (because there is one there!) and beep once when I enter mobile areas. Works well for me and the lifetime subscription to the accurate camera database that I've used before swung it for me.

Small, unobtrusive and easily transfered between cars as well.
 
Excellent, was hoping it could be set like that; just off to order one now!

It just seemed too good a price to be true with lifetime updates thrown in as well.

Personally I'd have just bought the cheapest TomTom and put it anywhere convenient.....you don't need to be able to see it. With the way ACPO guidance influences mobile location, its not like there are that many new locations added, they've pretty much found their hidey holes these days. All done for under £100...and a satnav you can use for other stuff like, cycling walking in the city etc..
 
Chaps, these are not speed camera detectors, as they rely on GPS. If you want a laser / radar detector as well, you need something like the Snooper 3ZERO. I don't have one, and the legality of using such a device might be questionable, but I am tempted...
 
I've got GPS and a radar laser detector in mine - just great. Means in between the 'detectors' I can speed up to well beyond the leagal limit and as I approach a detector brake really hard down to the speed limit to avoid capture. Really pisses off other motorists especially those behind me but who cares.... :poke:

If you have a smartphone, like an iPhone, then I certainly wouldn't pay for a radar / laser detector. I use the speed camera app on my iPhone from pocketgps world. It is recognised as the most up to date database, far better than TomTom. It is updated at least once a week and costs £19.99 for a subscription. It has mobile and fixed sites and is very configurable. It obviously isn't a detector but the performance of these is questionable.

That's the database that the Inforad uses which at around £40, with a lifetime subscription included, is a pretty good deal.
 
Well, will be returning the Inforad when delivered; pvr has helped with pics of his Origin install, so given I already own a very good unit I can now locate it properly on the dash without problems.

Have tried loads over the years, but the Origin is the only one I have trusted. Had 3 Snooper units of different models prior to getting my cash back from the manufacturer as they were all terrible, both on reliability & quality. If you can't trust the unit, there is little point having it.

Valentine was good, but too chirpy in town even with UK settings overlayed.

Undecided whether to bother installing the laser detection part though given in 4 years of use it has never gone off!

I've uploaded pocketgps onto my TomTom, which I use in my E46 when I can be bothered to set it up. In my ///M I rely on the latest Sat Nav disc and my eyes...
 
Got put off the cameras on the satnav disc when the first test run announced a camera that has never been there & then missed one that has been there for 10 years......not something I can build reliance on & trust based on current experiences.

If yours is reliable, I might have to get / plead with someone to help as it's beyond me!!

i have hardwired my road angel to my car.... i find the updates pretty good, and once alerted me at night going down the M1 slightly above the limit with cop car and mobile camera on one of the bridges

I rely on my girlfriend screaming as a give away that I'm going that little bit too fast...
