Spacers...

I finally got my H&R coilovers this year and after a whole summer of letting the springs settle I had my spacers installed. I went with 15mm in the front and 20mm in the rear. I'm using 108s with Hankook V12s. Can anyone recommend alignment settings? Getting the car aligned this Friday. Thanks!

Hi,
About to lower my car with Eibach pro Kit B12, 30 mm drop.
I plan to add spacers, 20 mm rear and 15 mm front.
Any brand, kit (spacer + bolts) interesting?

I think progressive means that the further they compress, the more they resist compressing - so the first few mm of travel are "soft" and will suck up the bumps, but as you get further into the compression, the ride gets stiffer. I think many motorcycle suspensions (front and rear) are set up this way.
Still I'm interested to see what happens when I find a few speed bumps.

That's what I was trying to say

So the Eibachs may be better even though they are lower, as I get no rubbing at all when turning the wheels at rest, or over the last few days with limited hooning (ergo less bumps and demands on the suspension).

Jeez, I am going all Andysat about this. Need to give myself a slap :headbang:

Hi Bing,

Are you happy with 20 mm rear and 15 mm front spacers?
I plan to get the same spacers, with pro kit B12, 30 mm drop

I was, yes. Even with a little rubbing up front. Not got them on now though as I have changed to 224s and they don't need spacers.

Thanks,
Actually I have the 108 type wheels you had before switching to the 224.
The little rubbing you mention was when you had your 108 wheels, with the spacers, right?
I see you had bought :

Yep, those are the ones. I only paid £119 though so the price has gone up...

Just make sure that if they give you locking wheel nuts that they are machined to the correct length. Two of mine were not, and they didn't go into the wheel very far. One of them had a burred thread and as a result it threaded the hub... Fortunately my garage managed to re-thread it. Personally I wouldn't get locking wheel nuts again if I did this - just get those plastic nut covers I was using on my wheels as they are impossible to get off without the little tool that comes with the set.

Thanks Bing,

regarding lenght of bolts, in a previous message, you measured :
15mm spacer - 36mm thread
20mm spacer - 42mm thread

But on the weblink, they mention 42 mm and 45 mm .. will I need to cut?

That's interesting that they are different - I guess mine were not as long as they should have been. I can't remember that they specified the link in the ad when I bought them. You should definitely not have to cut them, they should be the right length. I would double check with them if you're unsure.

Thanks Bing, I will let you know and come back to you if I need help, thanks. First thing is to lower the car with the pro kit B12, I will phone my garage tomorrow to get this done first. Meanwhile I will study spacers and bolts, yours and the Eibach ones which are not the same price .. I dont know if the difference worths it

ps: I see your zed if for sale. Very nice car, kind of reference for me, in term of spacers and lowering
Description of the anounce is impressive ! Wish you good sale

I want to add something to this thread, after 6 years being frozen :fuelfire:
This is a photo of @ga41 member who owns Z4 M and has got 12,5 mm spacers on front. He says:
Here's what that pointy edge did to my admittedly wider than normal AD08's after the spacers.
I drive 3.0si roadster with 8.0 ET 37 fronts with 225/40 R18 tyre plus Michelins pilot sports and I have the same issue. The part with red circle is where the tyre scrapes fender. I am on eibachs. This means, and I would never guess, that even 10 mm spacers are too much when you have got eibachs fitted. 5 mm is absolute max.

And this is front spaced 12 mm on sport suspension (so its higher than eibachs) and stock 8.0 ET 47 wheels:
Why am I writing this? To sum up and explain sb's hesitation bout spacers.
Conclusion: WHen you are lowered and on stock wheels, meaning 8.0 ET 47 and 8.5 ET 50 you can fit 5 mm up front and 20 mm rear and have no issues. Other than that you ris rubbing and damaging your wheel arch.

I recently put some f series winter wheels on an e87 1 series they stick out a lot more than the stock wheels I think the ET is in the low thirties and while they look great it’s made the steering too twitchy especially on motorways the slightest turn and the car changes direction too much. I assume adding spacers to the front wheels on the z4 would also have this affect as your essentially doing the same by making the Offset ET figure lower ? My thoughts are to just maybe do it to the rears as they sit too far in ?

If you are lowered 5 mm spacers up front are safe and you do not risk any drawbacks because of this.
Talking bout 8.0 ET 47 OE Z4 wheels.
