I don't think they're all the same, but there are only 20 or so variants IIRC. Easy enough for a thief to get a full set I guess... Or maybe a special tool that expands and grips maybe ?

Tbh tho a thief wouldn't want to be sat there too long trying all the key variants-so you may have a point.

I was shocked that the OEM only has 20 variants and am surprised that more isn't made of this by the non-OEM manufacturers. Some of the non-OEM are on my shopping list.

If you are really concerned re your wheels then you should get a set of McGards which have a specific locking wheel nut which can only be obtained from McGuard with the code if lost, broken etc. There are loads of variants so to find someone with the same one would be quite good going.

I've always fitted McGards to my cars and Honda supplied these on my Type R as standard. BMW seem to be adding these as my 35is has them and they are lists as an option at £55 iirc, however there is no card with a individual key code and when I enquired with BMW as to this they said contact the dealer. Because I couldn't get an answer from them either I swapped them for my own set to be sure. At £30 odd a set its well worth it when you have rather expensive wheels.

Might be a bit negative with this comment, but Locking wheel nuts are only good for stopping the casual opertunist, there are tools out there that can take of most locking wheel nuts in a few seconds . The best deterant is leave the car where everyone can see it.

Have you ever tried one of those backward thread locknut removal kits ? Pi55ing in the wind to try & remove 1 without impact driver let alone 4 without waking the neighbourhood
Most thieves would try to enter the car & locate the locker bolt head as the alarm would need to be off when they started jacking anyhow :wink:

firstly its in germany and to secondly ive never had a set of wheels taken off any car of mine and ive had a number of highly modified ones with desirable wheels on them

if a thief wants your wheels badly, they will have them one way or the other so just make sure your insured
