So you think your wheels are safe?

You don't need a key and impact wrench should remove the nut....apparently :|

Tim.
Probably right tom you only need to get enough purchase on the bolt to get it loose.
I lost my ford one once and made a replacement using an old socket.

Hasn't anyone done the thing of ramming an undersized socket on a rounded bolt before?

Yes it's a German 1er and would have been fitted with standard factory 18s and locking wheel nuts, which obviously of no use.

:(

Tim.

But did it have locking nuts?

Probably did but we know the standard spec changes from country to country.

Z4 E85 in USA - standard bluetooth loom, no alarm, no cd changer loom
Z4 E85 in UK - no bluetooth loom, standard alarm, standard cd changer loom.

+1 for having a second set of locking wheel nuts. I've had a second set on my cars since about 2007 when I got my 330D M.

Mate had a puncture the other day and had lost his locking wheel nut. He popped into a tyre place and they removed the wheel in seconds a few short, sharp hits with a heavy hammer and the thread was shot. Pulled out the locking wheel nut and got the wheel off in about 45 seconds. Ok so this was the spare on the back of a 4x4 but it shows you can just thread the bolt. A thief isn't going to worry about damaging the thread or the hub.
