So what next after 'dead4'?

See guys, I did it the right way. I had the 2.5 litre E85 and got the 2 litre E89 (25i), which is marginally quicker, but not as good looking. So I got slightly faster, better handling to make up for the fact that it is not quite as pretty.

I dont think there is a 25i. The engine model numbers are 18i, 20i, 23i, 28i, 30i, 35i, 35is.
The 2.0Litre would be badged either 18i, 20i or 28i and the 2.5Litre is badged 23i.

Finally, Audi have picked up the car from BMW Norwich. It happened yesterday. Of course, no one told me so I just had a rant at one of their managers this morning. Talk about painful. It was meant to have been picked up a week ago but their driver was 'ill'.

I often wonder why BMW offered the Z4 with so many engine choices.
Certainly fewer choices could have sold as well as many and cost less to produce.
It seems they couldn't decide what they wanted to build.

But with the 4-pot E89 for example, they got three for the price of one. Just a software tweak to match the number on the wing if the perceived info on here is correct. (Bigger brakes on the 28i? hardly a huge change)

Can you name another car that came with more engine options?

How about a ford Sierra? Base model was a 1300 ( - yea I could accelerate faster on foot but I was a lot younger then) all the way to the XR4i and RS Cosworth. Sure the range had 1.6; 1.8; 1.8i; 2.0; 2.0i in the middle.

Or a 2009/2014 Skoda Yeti :P

I guess I should have done my homework ?
Volkswagen Golf 2 (1983 – 1992); 8 engines, displacement from 1.0 to 2.0 liters. ...

Off the top of my head (after owning them for 30+ years): Ford Capri
1.3, 1.6 cross-flow
1.6, 2.0 OHC (Pinto)
2.0 V4 (Essex)
3.0, 3.1 V6 (Essex)
1.5, 1.7, V4 (Cologne)
2.0, 2.3, 2.6, 2.8i (Cologne)

Across 3 Marks though so probably don't qualify?

I think a case could be made for each Zed engine being the best match for it's targeted application, like economy, high performance, low price, and grandma with a remap, etc
Here FORD designs an iconic muscle car and offers it with a 4 pot auto  The internet is full of guys saying the 5L 6spd is the only correct way the car should be configured... sound familiar?

As of now I no longer own a Z4. Been nice knowing you....................

Oi! Who said you could leave?
You won't be the only non-owner on here I'm sure.
And when you finally see sense and get another then you'll know so much more.
Hang on in there Steve.

On a drastic weight loss plan that involved yodelling down the big white telephone for the best part of 24 hours!

Anyway, let's see what happens. That car, colour and spec was perfect for me so I'm a bit sad today. It will be difficult to find another I think.
