So that is why you leave dsc on!

Can you do that on the 2.0.......might have to go play.....need big open areas where i cant damage anything......now where is the nearest runway.............
As you might have guessed i don't touch THOSE buttons..although i take it the effect will not be quite the same as the Big Boys cars.

what size shoes was you wearing?

i turn mine off loads of times and enjoy it (fingers crossed)

It's still bloody cold, I wouldn't take it off until the weather and tyres are warmer. If it has caught you out I really recommend a car limits day with Andy Walsh, he'll show you how to control the car with it off and exploit the power safely. Plus it's a lot of fun!

Yep, mate booked us on one of these a week before Bedford - was hoping the other two slots would remain un-taken, or get a friendly in, but alas not. Really looking forward to it, thanks for the pointer

Brilliant!!! You've got to experiement with dsc off sometimes (although - with my IAM hat on - public roads aren't the best) - I may or may not do this from time to time in the wet...

First Z4 run north of the border last year.
Pissing wet day.
Leading the pack with creamcakeclarky in his Z4MR behind me.
Right turn onto a wide main road - with turning lane in middle, hatchings, etc.
I give a light tickle of the throttle (actually with the same intentions as Hark reports here).
Results in minor/incredibly pathetic slide that I catch like a hero
creamcakeclarky gives it big licks.
His back end steps out left.
His back end steps out right.
His back end steps out left again, over correction.
All I could see was his xenons flashing one way then the other in my rear view mirror...

After seeing the video in my thread named 'How did that happen' my DSC is left firmly on and always will be.

I'm just glad I didn't pile it before I saw how easy it is to crash.

If you want tp practice control with rear wheel spin, find an icy parking lot and spend some time in controlled skids and doing somedrifting , it helps when you hit the real stuff on pavement..(and it's easier on the tires) :driving:

I love driving down the road at a 35 degree angle but after 40 years of driving on ice for half the year I'm a bit bent

the first time I turned off the DSC in heavy rain is a time i wont forget. pretty much did a Hark but had no intentions of a powerslide, was just trying to negotiate a corner! lack of concentration = Lesson Learned

i would love to have a proper mess around on a big empty car park

would it be an offence to do it on an empty retail car park? could you get points on your licence?

You can slide the Z4M in the dry with DSC on...let alone off.

Someone here once explained M cars are set up to understeer straight away, whereas non Ms are set up to understeer first? For a more 'sporting' set up?....makes sense for the BMs I've owned

Did you mean "oversteer" for the non M versions?

You can slide but by no means can you hold a slide with DSC on. It lets you have some fun but reigns you in pretty quickly!

Edit: having driven and owned both, I'd say the first thing you come away with is pretty evident understeer.

There never was one, think it is just a description of the feeling by Hark.

Nope you can't get done, and all the police can do is ask you to move on and give you a stern ticking off.
There's a very large car park in my city and about 10 years ago it was used for evening drag racing. The police never told us off, they'd pop in time to time just to keep an eye on us though. One thing you can get done for is noise in a residential area so make sure there aren't any houses nearby.

 Brilliant Hark; what a great description. Hope the cleaning bill wasn't too extreme :D
