that is why I ws interested in the German one as its about 40% cheaper than the SmartTop version.
I know but it doesn't stand up too well with the Smarttop product being plug and play and play and other functionality. I'd buy Smarrtop but at over 300 quid I don't think it justifies the price and I love gadgets. :)

You’d get a fair proportion of that money back when you eventually sell the car on, life’s to short to worry about £100 :driving:

It is that old "man math" logic again. I am not worrying about it. :-)

I can make that work but not at this time - more of a summer need anyway not Dec / Jan time :|

Hi Tintoverano,

Not certain I want to be doing that, mechanically I can do the basics but messing round with the CTM is not something I want to do.

Is it possible to just code the close on the key fob and/or when moving via Carly?

Cheers
Sean

It’s possible to code roof closing from the key but you must have comfort access access optioned on your car for it to be possible, Carly can’t do it either-it’s more involved than that. :(
Rob
Mine has comfort access but have to hold the roof closing switch until the roof is fully down which is a pain. I can open it via the key but again only by holding the fob button down until fully open. Are you saying the system can be coded to allow for just a single press of switch or fob?

I think your car can be coded to open&close the roof from the fob, but maybe not with a momentary press :?
Rob

put up a wanted ad on here as you never know who is thinking of selling their car even if its not for sale yet, thats how i got mine.. money well spent imho, its worth it for the one touch open and close alone.. i found that holding the button down for 20 seconds incredibly frustrating.. if you pick up a used one you'll lose nothing when you sell it on too :)

I had my indy install the german module, only took him 1 hour. Worked like a charm for a few months & then developed issues where my trunk would no longer close. Took me while to figure out it was the module, sent an e-mail to the shop, then sent in the module, they tested it & sent me a new one.

I guess I got a monday morning version, in my previous car (E46 cabrio) had a similar product of them which worked fine for years.

Just get someone local to get Carly on it, the app will scan your modules and if coding the access and roof is available you will see it. Dont go spending tons of cash before you actually know for sure you dont have comfort access...

Just because you think it is doesnt mean everyone does bud.........

Can't you get in the car and start it without taking the keys out your pocket a comfort access feature? That's a pretty big tell if that's the case.. I don't have it so I don't know :D but I think that's one of the features

Yes, comfort access gives you keyless entry and keyless start. Pretty easy way to know if your car has it. I believe most of these E89s don't but I could be wrong.

I have purchased a smart top - how difficult are they to fit?

Is there a guide anywhere?

OGR

Here you go, don’t know if you’ve PDC but I have and have attached a picture of where I fitted the module, leave the USB accessible incase you want to change anything

They are certainly more expensive but they plug in and play - sometimes the more expensive kit works out cheaper!

If or when you sell the car, the Smarttop module always sells on here, so factor that into the price maybe?

You did right to grab it !
As a used item price you will probably get your money back.
The USB tail is important if you need it, but in all honesty I’ve never needed to use it in almost 7years
