Not sure if its been mentioned but dont put your key fob in your pocket while fitting as it has been known for the roof to start operations caused by leaning on the key at the wrong moment, which you don’t want with your head and arms in amongst it

Thanks for the tip as that is 100% where the key would have been kept and even though I am an ugly ole fart, I do rather like my head attached to my body :rofl:

Here you go, don’t know if you’ve PDC but I have and have attached a picture of where I fitted the module, leave the USB accessible incase you want to change anything :thumbsup:

No problem Roddy, as for future mods, I’ve not got, nor had an N20 so am not in a position to advise .

Try a 18/20/28 search on the forum, and have a look at what people like PBondar/boltz and many others have done when upgrading performance and handling

nah, I meant settings changes or firmware upgrades to the Smarttop. Not much else will change with the car..... maybe :D

Sorry Roddy, my mistake :oops:

I don’t think the firmware changes that often but I had to update mine when I got it.

There’s a settings matrix button which brings up the menu’s for you to choose (picture below). I initially set dipping mirrors and something else and they were a PITA , that’s why I said about leaving the usb accessible. It also allows you to switch it off if going in for a service.

Aye, maybe is what we all say................. :rofl:

When mine goes into the dealership, I tell them a module is fitted and that the roof buttons are one touch up and down - they make a note on the job sheet - I just like leave it all switched on as normal .
 
I have dipping mirrors so not interested in that one but will see what additional functionality I can get.

I guess the on / off function is more if the car was still under manufacturers warranty, for me I will fit it and leave it switched on as I will be using an Indie for servicing.
 
Obviously I will be advising them of the smart top installation and functions - the last thing I want is to injure someone.

The dealership fitted mine for me when I bought the car - I need the facility of the roof from the key fob because of my wobbly leg so they are happy to accept my warning at service time :thumbsup:
 
I just need it cos I want it and man maths made it work - just subtle little mods for me want to keep the car original as possible :D
 
Shhhh don't tell SWMBO or it will be on here for sale along with me but I suspect the smart top will be more popular and fetch more money :rofl:
 
I have comfort access but I still need to insert the key fob to start it thankfully. Cars that have "keyless" entry are the ones that can easily be nicked.

Not certain the smart top has any effect on my cars door locks - don't have comfort access
 
Installed mine this morning, easy enough, longer cables would be nice to make it easier to stash the connectors under the floor panel.
Should be safe for wife to drive as for the most part remote function is as standard, she *shouldn't* accidently open the roof with a long push.
Mirrors fold with 2 taps, just like her Honda, so won't be used every time the doors are locked/unlocked.
Really is plug and play, expensive maybe but I wouldn't want to mess with any wiring there.

Only problem... those BMW plastic panel rivets don't like freezing temperature.. need to buy some replacements. :headbang:

Hmm, that doesn't sound like comfort access to me. You should be able to start the car with your key in your pocket.

Keyless entry usually means you have keyless start, it's keyless start that enables thieves to drive away. If you have comfort access you have both keyless entry and start if you can't start the car without inserting the key fob then you don't have comfort access.
