Should I re-map ?

Just had a conversation with OPM Tuning/RD Motorsport in Edinburgh last week about this when I was booking mine in for a service. :?
They also use Celtic Tuning with the warranty mentioned.

Think about getting pre and post dyno runs to verify the remap. Evolve offer this. Just depends how far you are located from them.

Although this is nice to do in terms of seeing how your car baselines against others..from a re-map view its irrelevant with the quality suppliers as they have a standard upgrade and its not tweaked or tailored on installation.

So the upgrade will be what it is and highly reproducible..the benefit of a rolling road is comparing incremental / alternative changes to an engine.

If you are just doing a straight re-map and can get a dyno run thrown in free then great, otherwise I'd save the money and just look at the other charts already published as yours will be pretty close, and most likely, from the same re-map supplier, any variations will be down to the dyno itself. how the runs were done, temp, pressure, number of runs etc..

All IMHO

I think every car is different. For example Smartbear had the same remap as me (I actually took his dyno printout along with me to Evolve), but we've got two completely different results. Hence, personally, I'd much rather have a dyno graph to verify figures pre and post remap.

Evolve remapped mine. BHP is up, but the torque is incredible at 350 ft lbs!

Hi what BHP is associated with that torque figure?

Do you have a dyno copy we could see pls?

Yeah 350ft/lb sounds too high.

Mine made 270bhp and just shy of 300ft/lb.

I’ve really noticed the difference and mine was the 28i so 245bhp to start with. I imagine for the 18i and 20i it must feel astonishing!!

I bought my car when it was 2 years old (2014 plate) and it had done 30k Miles. I do a lot of miles and it’s been mapped for at least 30k miles. It’s now on 80k miles and it is perfect. No issues. It’s always serviced by BMW when it needs to be.

Only issue I’ve had was a boost hose shattering but that was due to debris from the road!!

Copy of the graph attached below. Seems to peak at just over 350ft lbs. I may have read it wrong, so please excuse me if I have. I recall it being a particularly warm day and Evolve told me outputs would have been higher if it was cooler. No idea by how much.

I don’t think that graphs been extrapolated correctly, the power/torque lines don’t cross at the right rpm? :?

The lines cross over at a similar point to Evolve's own graph. The bhp and torque figures are spot on too. Your cross over point seems to be higher up the rpm range and toque lower. :|

Here's their graph..bmw_z4_e89_20i_remap_3.jpg

The above just points out why I'd rather have a pre and post dyno. Every car is different.

Something isn’t right there, power is torque x rpm so I’m not sure how your car can produce that amount of torque yet have a lower bhp figure than my car? It’s odd :?

No idea Rob. I know my car's been transformed after the remap and know yours was too. I recall talking to many members, you included, about remapping. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Happy driving! :driving:

Booked in with Celtic, third week of May was the earliest. Will keep this thread updated.

Considering it in June for my 35iS, so keen to see how they do. Do you have the option of disabling kickdown / changing the exhaust burble like MHD? Are they coming to you?

They are coming to me, I have a manual box so can't answer that one and as for the exhaust I have no idea sorry mate

[ref]Huzee4[/ref], Exciting....! You may tempt me yet :poke:

I'm very exited ! I've asked them to put me down for a cancellation anytime soon if they have one, an advantage of being retired

If the re-map doesn't blow my socks off I'm contemplating a new Zed, need to get this past wifey first, driven her to distraction over the years with me and cars.

Been reading this with great interest,
Still contemplating a re map but bit worried about damaging the car ,
All the good stuff seems very positive but read elsewhere about some bad things too , can’t wait to see your response to having it done , though one issue I’ve read is with auto box so won’t apply to you, all that have gone that road on here seem to be impressed with the results, hopefully you can spur me on with your good results  :driving:

[ref]Dave 2 dogs[/ref], I’ve been researching it; I've got a 20i Auto... I've not seen a conclusive answer yet, will keep looking.

I'm guessing so... Not sure if it depends on year;

My understanding when it comes to the E89 is the 35is is a dual clutch auto (DSG) and all other models have single clutch 8 speed ZF boxes or a manual obviously.
