Semi Integrated Nav anyone??

As my tom tom is pretty much on its last legs I have been contemplating my options for replacement.

Whilst speccing up the new car I contemplated the intergrated nav but couldnt justify the £2250 they were asking for it.

Seen a few posts on this and I have been speaking to my supplying dealer who informs me that this system is voice controlled, touch screen and fully intergrated into the cars sound system. They replace the storage compartment on top of the dash with a tray which has a bracket which you then dock the portable sat nav on when you want to use it.

I really like the idea of this as I hate trailing wires and suckers on windscreens etc and feel at £490 fully installed with warranty it's not the bargain of the century but alot easier to swallow than the £2250.

Has anyone got one of these installed and have any reviews?

Dealer has sent me a few pics today of it installed on a customers Zed.

I would of course try and get a further discount on the £490

It a Garmin Nav from Memory.

If you have an iPhone I think you will find BMW also supply an intergrated kit so you can use that instead.

It is a Garmin unit.. Looks quite good from the demo he gave me last time I was in the dealership. Has a BMW logo in the menu that you can press that lists all the dealerships in your location.

I have an iPhone so I will explore that option aswell. Thanks

Did they understand you when you asked what the options where to de-flimper the car? :D

Haha..

I would have gone for the anti flimper spec in the first place but I think it really is over priced

Its a BMW RRP of £490.. If you tell them youve seen it advertised at £490 I would think they will honour it. If not just go elsewhere

wtf is this "flimper" business?

Yes, the unit is a Garmin. My wife has one in her 1'er (thats being traded in for the zee 4...sorry, zed) that the stealer fitted for free as a sweetener to make her buy the car, cos it didn't have bluetooth or usb.

The unit we've got doesn't have a music player, but they might supply a newer model now (ours is over a year old). However, the z4 has usb, so music not an issue, and ours doesn't pair automatically with iPhone 4s. It worked fine with iPhone 4, but not 4s - as the cars going in a few days I haven't tried it with iOS 5.1

Again, bluetooth shouldn't be an issue, as the car has bluetooth. So its just the nav.

My wife got on very well with it. I went for pro nav in my 1'er (that she's now got) and also in my Z4 mainly due to integrating everything. I don't think the BMW pro nav is anywhere near as good as tom-tom etc, but it is functional. If you're used to tom-tom you will find the garmin slightly different, but I'm sure you'll get on with it.

Hmmmmm one thing tho, the sat nav pro does so much more than just sat nav. Go on John, add it in to make the car complete! :D

Just wondering why you would bother tbh, I have an iPhone with CoPilot premium and live traffic, that sits perfectly in the ashtray that I use for navigation, it's almost perfect.

I use co-pilot Live Premium on my Android too, works fine and perfectly portable.

some of the routing can leave a little to be desired sometimes though...

I Have used orange maps on the iPhone and can't get on with it. Doesn't seem to be fast enough. Quite like the idea of this semi intergrated system but it is still rather pricey considering I could get a new Tom
Tom for less than half the price :|

Have tomtom on the iPhone and it works well even without the extra docking holder

I use copilot, but the routing is really shite.

True it can sometimes be a tad stupid, however with premium you can easily review the route and it gives you two alternate routes as well

Of course it is, the music, the iPod integration, the radio, the board computer control, the sat nab, the phone, reverse camera and so on.

Or are you going to be the E89 equivalent of flimper? :poke:
