Scottish meet - 7/8th August 2010 - Skye!

Great stuff siftah . And a good call on staying up to visit Plockton and/or Applecross - that's exactly the trip I did at the start of June, which sort of gave the idea for this trip. When you say "keeping an eye on this thread" is that you confirming you're coming along? Or still not 100% sure yet?

Guiseley - you know you want to :D

I think Siftah is in - verging on becoming a "meet junkie"... surprised Tweed (who's becoming similarly afflicted) hasn't taken time out from his cleaning regime to sign up yet! Will check out Plockton and Applecross.

Am now going to devote my time to finding the best method of midge destruction / prevention!

Im getting me one of these.

I'll not confirm just yet as I know I've got some training coming up at work which could affect this, once I have a date on that I'll confirm. I'm a 100% for "wanting to come" and I've got the holidays booked off, but the training course would be hard to re-arrange as it's a group booking and tbh, it's likely to be fairly important to me job-wise (nowt special but it'll be politically bad if I didn't attend).

I'll camp so I should be OK for booking later on I guess - you can always wild-camp - Ray Mears style - in Scotland anyway If I get stuck :)

I did a route which took in Plockton, Skye, Loch Carron, Gairloch and then across to Inverness and back down in 2004 with an ex who was a Weegie. Brilliant roads and countryside, so I know this would be an excellent meet :)

Thanks for clarifying :)

Don't worry about the camping anyway - it's not possible to book the campsite, I've already enquired about that. Simply turn up and pitch and the bloke comes round sometime to collect your money!

Whats everyone doing about BBQ stuff, I intend to take along a couple of those instant lite disposable things with a bag load of dead animals.

My thoughts were maybe to buy the stuff up there. That way if it's utterly peeing it down we can abandon the BBQ idea and retreat inside the pub to eat?

There's a decent-sized Co-op in Portree approx 8 miles north of the campsite - we raided it last time for that exact reason. They also sell bags of ice which we put to good use in our Bulmers :icb:

Sounds like a good plan
More good news, all my poly Bushes arrived today, downside is I can't get it booked in till 26th, But all the work will be done in time for the trip.

I am still waiting to get my new rota - absolute joke considering I've phoned and emailed several times! Really hope I can make this. On a side note, the better ("Ahem") half and I are going camping this weekend - considering either Loch Lomond/Arrochar or Mull. I'm quite keen for Mull - would be a great wee trip for the Zed and the camera :)

Sounds like a great plan to me!

I'll take a little foldaway BBQ and some coals and take it from there. Breakfast in the morning is a more awkward one, find a cafe for a bacon butty? I seem to remember a decent little one in Portree...

So you a definate now Siftah

Wild horses would be required to stop me

(There's still a slight possibility I won't be able to make it, depending on this training course, but it's looking really unlikely they'll be able to organise it that quickly so it's getting more and more definite by the minute! I have the Fri/Mon booked off work already and just need to organise a cat-sitter then I'm all set.)

Good stuff
Not sure what the number is up to at the mo I'm sure a11y will update the list Soon :poke:

Notice Gannet & Aebous expressed slight intrest earlier in the thread as well,, You guys up for this

Yeah yeah I know, I've neglected this a bit :D

I'll have a sift through the thread and update soon.

And yeah, there's the hotel for breakfast although we might just fire up another BBQ and stick the bacon, black pudding and square sausage on

Ha, I can sympathise with that - my wife's department is exactly the same, the rota only done at most a month in advance but sometimes not until the week before. Made planning this trip a nightmare :(

Folks, I've updated the confirmed and provisional lists in my first post, after having a review back through the thread. Could anyone who's still provisional please confirm either way ASAP? Thanks.

That's 7 cars confirmed so far - fantastic, didn't realise we were up at that number :)

It gets better - phoned/emailed several secretaries and consultants today and no one can confirm where I am starting on 4th August and if I'll be working between the Royal and the Western. Couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery....

Man I could not work like that, I would be tempted to say " as you are unble to tell me when I am working but I can tell you when I am not available then you will have to work my shifts around me"
Appreciate that could result in you no longer having any shifts but surley in an organisation that size someone needs to take responsibility and get it sorted out well in advance, especially when you take into consideration the amount of people it affects.

JimmyPop, that sucks! Given their apparent lack of organisation, would they notice if you weren't there?

Siftah, excellent news mate  If you're doing the Friday up / Monday back as well would be cool to meet up for the journey :driving:

Good work Ally, looking forward to this, will be my first time in Scotland!

EDIT: 2dogs, have you bought an M yet? Get a move on and you can join the Scottish meet :poke:
