Hi Edderby,

Really appreciate the upgrade - glad i was quick off the mark.

More than happy to pass on the upgrade disk to anyone else on the forum once I have finished the upgrade. (hopefully this weekend)

As soon as I have I will add a post to this thread, and again it will go to the first person to post a reply...

Thanks again.

Elliot

FYI everyone, V31 is now available and it does include an update to the MKIV navigation systems. Info on it and where it can be found are over on the X5world Navigation Forum http://www.x5world.com/navigation-system/44556-v31-has-been-released-now-available.html
It's sort of beyond the scope of getting the 3D view thread, but thought it might be useful info for someone. No obvious changes with the new version, supposedly just behind the scenes enhancements.

edderby thanks for your help.

Just so you all know i have just updated the software to V31. I have installed with no problems. Now reads 4-1/00

Starscream,

Yes, the BMW NAV updates will work with the US maps as well. Typically they show up on the Internet from various BMW dealers/customers in the EU first before they show up in the US. You just download the image and burn a CD to update your Z4. The latest version is V31. Here is the SIB which describes the various releases and changes to the updates. http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/bulletin_graphic_temp/B652102G.htm

As far as the map DVDs, those come from Navteq and typically don't have the camera information, etc as standard. As mentioned there are many threads on the X5world navigation forum http://www.x5world.com/navigation-system/ that discuss how to find and update/modify both the NAV firmware (splash screens, icons, etc) and map DVDs to add new POIs such as speed cameras.

There is also information here on Z4-forum in the How-To group on what you need to update the NAV firmware http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=269 Another good Z4 update reference is over on Zpost http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69732

ok I downloaded the file from X5 world,
I updated my software to the V31 and it says 10.0 whatever on the nav screen,

I tried following the "how to" on how to change the splash screen and warning message delete but the download for the navtweek wouldn't work,

in lay mans terms is there an easier way to change the splash screen now I have this new software?

and is there a torrent for a newer Nav DVD? I have a 2006.2 disc,

I'm keen to get my software upgraded, does it still keep the 'BMW' splash screen and female uk voice etc?

Any help would be much appreciated in sourcing and creating a updgrade disc for the latest stable version.

Starscream,

Nope, you have to go through Navtweak to modify the navboot file in order to make any modifications to the software. I tried a link to Navtweak myself just now and it seemed to work for me. Try this one http://rapidshare.com/files/8925524/navtweak.zip.html

As far as the US maps DVD on bittorrent, there isn't much out there for the MK IV navigation. Anything that shows up for the US are usually maps for the Professional Navigation which is the unit for the MOST bus cars (iDrive). Navteq just released the 2008.1 maps this week.

Guys,

V29.1 or V30, whichever you get are the standard BMW operating systems and don't change anything on splash screens, language etc..

Any change of the OS requires you to take that software and edit its ISO file and insert new splash screens, icons, change the sky or anything else you want and then burn it to a disk. Yo also have to change the version number so the car DVD player recognises it as a later version so V30 you woudl name as V30.1, etc.

The resulting file is then burned to cd and uploaded as a new OS and as far as I know there is no quick way as it's all customised by you.

I've played with this for hours and hours and have over time messed with a great variety of my own custom screens, icons, etc but they do tend to be less stable than 'clean' originals.

Good fun if you have nothing better to do but expect a few scrap discs and some time wasting

For my part I currently just run the latest maps with speed cameras built in as PoI and enjoy the system stability

CJ which version would you recommend I download? I just nabbed v31 but havent done anything with it yet.

Car has quite an old version (v24 perhaps or older) whatever was around in june 2003 when it was made!

Also when upgrading, should the ignition be in position 1 or 2?
