Do you know which mode it should be burnt in, mode 1 or mode 2. v29.1 is mode 2/form 1. V31 is mode 1. I'm using imgburn and have both v29.1 and v31 downloaded as images.

Adam,

Should be Mode 1.

I think while I ate dinner you guys sorted it all out....lol

I'm not sure there is in reality any difference on a MkIV between V29.1 and V30 however uppping from the V24 era will certainly give you 3D perspective.

In terms of ignition the only thisng I woudl say whatever you do don't touch anything until the update is finished. That could be messy

Also when burning the ISO to CD use a real quality and burn it as slow as your system will allow.

Good luck

Ok i burnt it onto a sony cdr using imgburn at 16x, the imgburn said 16x was the medias slowest supported speed. All burn fine and verified :) Will give it a whirl tomorrow with v31 :)

I completely agree, my local stealership wants £40 + VAT to upgrade the software and the guy that can do it is only there on weekdays... I told them if they let me borrow the disc for 10 minutes i would do it myself... strangely they declined

I guess im just be somewhat cautious as I dont wish to brick the device, I recently traded up to the 2008.11 navigation dvd and that seemed to make my TMC work. The better routing logic and postcode search is the main reason for upgrade, perspective view might be interesting to try too :O)

Hopefully the weather is nicer tomorrow so I can give the upgrade a try.

SWEET the v31 upgrade went smoothly and works great, the colours are much clearer to read now (yellow roads on a yellow background before... what were they thinking!). Perspective view is also interesting and the local information seems much more comprehensive and gives a radii to search.

If any uk resident wants the cd I used then please pm me. First come first serve although if the numbers are low I could always burn a few more copies however I only have cheapy pc world cdr's left as this was my last sony disc.

All in all, i'd really recommend the upgrade if your running an old version and do not pay bmw £40+vat for 5 minutes work which requires no knowledge other than turning the ignition to postion 1 and inserting a cd :fuelfire:

I knew you'd come through on this one and no doubt feel satisfied that not only does it work but you save the cost, time and effort of a dealer trip

I suggest you keep the disc. If ever you have to flash it again you have a known working disc.

Hi

The software on my early Z4 had been updated in '06, but the disc was still the original '03. So, I bought the 2008.01 upgrade disc (for £99 inc VAT with my original disc in exchange) and got the V31 software from the link suggested by RCNet, used nrg2iso, burned the ISO using K3B on SUSE Linux. The upgrade took about 4 minutes with the CD in the Z4's drive and all went without a hitch.

What an improvement! I think that the perspective view is just a gimmic, but the maps are not just newer, but are better (my house is now on a road, rather than in a blank space!) and there are far more localities. It is a shame that the system does not use the full UK GIS database, to allow navigation by full postcode, but the limited postcode system is very much better than none at all.

Hi all

Is the 2008 disc the only one that covers the POI (speed cams etc)? I have the 2007 disc and have not noticed any speed cams on mine? Should there be and how do I select them?

Also - I wanted to drive the Zed to Poland this summer but it is not on my European DVD! Does anyone know if there is a DVD available with the whole of Poland?

Thanks
Nick

As far as I'm aware the speed cameras are not a part of the BMW software. Those who have them have hacked the disc to add them as their own linked POI database.

Driving in Poland...lol I've worked in most major cities there and that they don't yet have decent roads between them. You should be able to wreck the Zed as you drive there. :driving:

Oh, I see! First reading this thread, I assumed that the V31 update would add these cameras but it appears not according to another forum. I am really confused, any idea where to get them from?
Are the roads THAT bad?! I was looking forward to some unrestricted speeding on those German roads!

i got help from zippster

he pointed me in the direction of the camera db(csv files) from pocketgpsworld.com, and pimp-my-nav.com software for adding the files on the cars dvd
it all works perfectly!!

Have a look...

sapphire_nick just to clarify V31 is the operating system version. The latest gives you amongst other things perspecive view. Tha map disk contains not only the maps but the db for poi such as hotels, airports, etc.

Obviously sourcing unauthorised map discs is not something the admins would welcome but look slike you have a lead in the post above

Polish roads. Very poor in many places as they have not had the time to build the infrastructure to keep pace withthe growing economy. I did a lot of driving around Warsaw, but the rest ofthe time I went train or flew as the locals projcted journey times were staggering. German roads - totally different story

is there a (program/software update) way of getting the nav screen to display true road speed from the GPS? I know it can be seen on the GPS sub menu but I want it on the nav screen. What would be really useful is to have it in both Kmh and mph...
