Rubber trim around the windscreen

What is it that makes it more difficult on an E86 ? :?

to be honest, I have no idea as I have yet to try it, but from a lot of forum posts out there about the topic, everyone seems to say its harder on the coupe

I've never changed the trim on an E85 but my E86 was under an hour to remove the old one, fit the new one, remove it to get a better fit and then refit it.
I've no idea how some people have managed to crack windscreens or even how it's become a thing online that the E86 is harder.

This is the top of the e85 when I did the refresh of the rubber. Not really sure what is different with the e86 except for the material of the roof

Still don't see the issue.

Proper trim removal tools is all you really need. As I said, I changed my E86 trim in under an hour having never tackled it before.

I agree. I used two plastic trim removal tools, microfibre cloths and plenty of Tar and Glue Remover solvent to clean any excess screen sealant from the recess and rear edge of the glass. Took me 45 minutes to an hour of cleaning and then the trim went in first time, a bit of adjustment at the top corners and done in 10 minutes  20230602_160457.jpg20230602_160507.jpg

My window trim is in but for some reason there is now wind noise coming from the passenger side at motorway speeds. It sounds like it’s the top of the window trim all the way over to the left. The new trim is a way better fit than the old trim which was falling apart so I don’t know why it’s making a noise.

I’ve been over it and it all looks like it fits perfectly well and I can’t see a single hole anywhere so no idea why this has suddenly started.

If anyone has any ideas on what to adjust to stop the damn noise that would be great.

And bump and the smallest of gaps will do that. I solved 75% of the wind noise but still have to fix the rest, I use the windscreen gunk goo stuff (can’t remember the name, but some sort of bonding) to stick the rubber down so it doesn’t protrude anywhere

You know what as I read your post it has made me wonder whether it looks completely tight, until the point where wind is blowing against it at 70mph then it starts to lift. I will put some duct tape over it today to test it then if it stops the noise I’ll have to squeeze some sealant under there.

I put masking tape over the whole top section to test and it was completely silent. Don’t use duct tape as you will pull everything off with it

I was similar. I was about an hour to remove, clean up, fit, remove to adjust and refit.

No issues at all....and I have an E86

Well the windscreen trim is not the problem it’s the passenger side window not sealing very well against the roof. It looks like maybe the back of the window needs to lift a little. The drivers side doesn’t seem to have a gap but there is a bit of a gap on the passenger side.
