i would say i would personally prefer noise over power as noise is more measurable...for me anyway as i dont do lap times etc..
lets imagine you make an extra 10bhp from your uprades and research....i will possibly notice that less than a howl of a gruppe m or afe which has the possibility of losing a bhp or two...
if you can get more power out of the intake while making it sound better then excellent work!
i think its good to have a vareity of options...cheap afe which provides noise,more expensive gruppe m which provides noise and "maybe" and extra hp, your mod which provides perhaps noticeable power, and the much more expensive csl which provides noticeable power and sound....oh and the much more expensive S/c which is just...pooweeerr
id love to read your reseach, i know i probably wouldnt understand much of it as in avionics we dont tend to learn about aerodynamincs and i know you want to copyright stuff when u land something big, but would make interesting reading
What I'm developing will cost less than a CSL intake and will not require a remap.
You might like to see where I'm up to with performance improvements from the mods that I've done to my Z4MC, as shown in the graph below.
I've compared the performance in 3 different states: 1. OEM intake and OEM silencers; 2. modified air intake and modified silencers and 3. "Ramcharger" and OEM silencers. These figures are "standardised" because, when recorded, they take into account the variables of ambient temperature, pressure and humidity, and all recordings are from on the same private road.
As you can see, I've been able to increase the torque output by around 8.5% above OEM, which in turn, increases horsepower. My latest mod, the "Ramcharger", not only increases the torque, but it also maintains the increased torque to high rpm, which has a considerable impact on bhp. I've previously made a "Ramcharger" for my Z3MC with the same S54 engine, and the results that I've obtained with both my Z3MC and Z4MC are very similar, except that the redline on the Z4MC is higher than for the Z3MC, so the Z4M is able to produce higher bhp. The dip and peak at around 7500rpm in the graph for the "Ramcharger" occurs because I had to lift off as I crested a small rise during the run, but shows that peak torque can occur at high rpm due to the effectiveness of the intake.
if/when I make this development available, then I have loads of data that would be made available to support the product. What do you think gains of the order shown in my graph, combined with an improved induction sound, would be worth?
