Router question and sky+ anytime

Hello Chaps, at the moment my wi-fi router is plugged directly into the back of my main PC. So now i want to access Sky anytime+, so decided in my wisdom to move router to the back of the sky box and TV ( to far from TV to connect a cable without moving ) plugging my phone line straight into the back of my PC, low and behold no internet nor could i connect my tablet to the internet either and my sky service said not connected to phone line. So what have i done wrong, am i missing something, or is this just not the way you have to do it. Put everything back to normal all is working fine. Thanks in advance Steve

Router must be attached by cable or wifi to your PC and the data connection from phone line must go to the Router(data channel from splitter

The Sky box needs
1. A phone connection (not data ) from the phone side of splitter
2 a connection to the router via cable ,(I don't think the Sky +box can take wifi)
If the sky box is too far from the router consider a pair of mains plugs that transmit data over the
ring main

I use D-Link .I have all my PCs and network on 1st floor with a separate line for Broadband
I use D-link sender in Study and have one in Kitchen area for wife to use laptop on and one in Lounge feeding Sky box
All work brilliantly
Have a look on Amazon they carry a wide selection of makes and styles
ps yes homeplugs ( I couldn't remember the name  )

I use a couple of the TP-Link TL-PA211KIT's in my house, i have one in the living room, study and cinema room.

I use these as you'll most probably find you get a faster internet speed when plugged into the telephone master socket. My router sits behind the tv and feeds the sky+ and ps3 with another ethernet cable going to a homeplug.

I then get internet on the 1st and 2nd floor using 2 more homeplugs, speed is good also, enough to stream HD video and sound from my PC to PS3's.

So now please excuse this if really dumb why did i not get an internet connection when i plugged the phone line directly into my pc

In the telephone(wall ) socket you should have a splitter hanging out ( unless your master socket was installed quite recently where the splitting function works for the whole house and all it's outlets )
that has two outlets one for the phone handset or base station and the other for the cable that plugs into the router
The data lines have a small square plug similar to the ethernet (network) cable but smaller

I am the opposite as I have a separate master on a dedicated line in the study
Using the main master I was only getting .7Mbps .It was then I realised why the previous owner had 2x lines .With the dedicated line I get 1.9Mbps
But 31October I get FTTC where line tests indicate I could get 57.5Mbps famine to feast
