Roof latches issue.

Hi all, I have a problem -

I've been replacing the hydraulic lines and relocating the roof motor etc but now the roof latches that hook into the windscreen will not close or open either manually or with power - with the cover off for manual use I can see the motor running and things turning but the catches don't move, after a few seconds there is a click and I suspect that something has become disengaged from the latches.

The roof is partially locked closed with a gap of about an inch so is not water tight. Is there a way to get to the latches with the roof in this position?

Are the driveshafts that run from the central roof motor to the claws turning ok?

If they are turning that’s a good sign

Can you cycle the roof back and forth to see if it’s just out of position?

Isn't there a plastic drive gear from the motor to those drive shafts? Sure I've read somewhere that they can be replaced with a metal kit?
It's not too difficult to remove that motor and check.

[ref]MeinMotorradsZ4[/ref], have you tried turning the latches using the key way in the motor drive? Maybe if there’s an issue with the drive gears then the motor is spinning fast and causing them to slip. Doing it by hand May not apply as much torque.

It was while using the key that the problem arose. Looking at Usel's pictures of the claws and given that the drive shafts turn freely I'm wondering if the screwed shaft in the latch mechanism has become detached somehow.

I've tried wiggling them with my fingers but they are locked solid, no movement at all.

Is there a way to get to the claws with the roof locked in a partially open state? I can see some screw heads along the edge of the interior trim piece that I may be able to get to (Edit: 4 x T20 and quite easy to turn) - hopefully this may allow for further disassembly.

It would be very much a coincidence for both claw assemblies to develop a fault at the same time. Unless perhaps you have overwound them and they have jammed?

And here's another thought............................ have you possibly wired the motor on the pump the wrong way round? It's a common mistake and can cause the two ends of the system to fight against each other.

Just looked (with an endoscope) through the gap between the latch motor and claw assembly - there is clearly an issue with the drive shafts and they'll need to be replaced. Anybody got part numbers for these?

Just found this thread from 2017 - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101866

Done. I'll pm you.

Not sure you have to go that far do you?
If it's the drive shafts you're replacing I 'think' you can remove the motor after piece 17 is off, then slip the shafts out.

OP I have a couple of driveshafts and a motor if yours have failed

I'm happy to step aside Stuart as he does want a pair of drive shafts
