Roof Hinge Replacment.

I've replaced and relocated the roof motor on my z4 however the drivers side hinge on the roof is leaking hydraulic fluid.

Does anyone know how much they are? How hard they are to change? And lastly how much roughly would a garage charge to fix it?

Thanks in advanced

Hey just a suggestion would it be worth you removing the roof and getting the garage to change the line? Keep the costs down that's what I would do.

When you say hinge ! I'm sure your aware having replaced and relocated the roof motor that the hinged sections of the roof do not operate by means of hydraulic oil pressure . The hinges are powered by the hydraulic actuators but other than light lubrication they do not have oil flowing to them . If you have a leak, is it possible that it's just lubriction oil dripping off the hinge joints or that during the roof motor replacement/ relocation a hydraulic line has been pinched and this is where you leak is coming from . How long ago was this replacement and relocation done ? You are welcome to call me if you need clarification 07771847714 . Bryan

Bryan.

Thank you for your response. I didn't remove the roof during the relocation of the motor. However, once I'd sorted the motor I noticed that the amount of fluid in the resivoir needed constantly topping up. I examined the roof as it closes and there is a spray of hydraulic fluid out of the hydraulic ram at the bottom of the roof just behind the drivers door.

Thank you.

Many thanks

The hydraulic actuators basically have two compartments which take oil, from the resoviour when you operate the roof ,simply put one is for the roof up position and one compartment is for the roof down position. When you operate the roof the hydraulic fluid is pumped from one compartment to the other via the pump and this operates a clogged gear that pushes the roof mechanism up or down . These actuators are one each side of the car located behind the drivers and passengers door pillars and are and intergal part of the roof frame, IE you cannot replace them without removing the roof assembly, in my experience they rarely go wrong . As you know from repositioning the pump there are 4 hydraulic pipes that come out of the pump, 2 of these pipes fill the up position compartments of the actuators and the other two the down position compartments , so as the pump runs it pushes fluid into the feed pipes for up or down position as you've selected and the fluid in the compartment already full is simply pushed back down the other lines and back to the fluid resoviour , so your leak is possibly from either of the two pipes at that actuator being damaged , it's difficult to say which pipe because they will both be under pressure when you operate the roof up or down . The other and less likely fault might be that one of the pipes isn't seated properly in the actuator . They are held in with metal clips that allow the pipe to rotate in its fixing port , it's possible that when repositioning the pump you have over stretched the pipe and the clip has come out slightly causing fluid to leak past the fixing . Or that you have split the pipe over stretching it . Or as the pipes are carefully positioned around the roof frame to the drivers side from the pump ,that when repositioning ,you have moved or dislodged a pipe and it's been pinched in the mechanism and is now leaking .

I have this issue, 11/13 is oozing out fluid. Could you give me hints on how to find the fault?
