Roadster to Coupe - thoughts?

Late to this, but was in the same quandry - I love the design of both cars....

So......

Not very imaginative I know, but...... :driving:

You can buy a hardtop for a roadster

...yeh, but it still looks like a roadster.....

For me the looks of the coupé made it a no brainer.

Th coupé (at least in ///M guise) is more driver focused. I wanted a driving car (with a certain degree of refinement), I'm not suffering from a mid-life crisis, I've nothing to compensate for, I'm not a poser and I'm not a hairdresser...as such, I had no need for a roadster. :poke:

In all seriousness, both are great cars, I can definitely see the appeal of open-top motoring, but as I said, the looks of the coupé swung it, it was a car i HAD to own, rather than something I wanted.

Sorry Zerm....one Roadster and one Coupé !

:)

never .... ( the seats give it away  )

If I'd wanted a fixed roof S54 Engined a BMW I would have bought the real drivers fixed roof M3 CSL rather than the compromised Z4MC ... Not as focused as the M3 CSL or as much fun as a Z4MR .

Said a little in jest - but it's not like the MC was the ultimate track car in its day

If it's your only car, then the Coupe is a no brainer. It's the sensible practicle one.

If it's a second car, you enjoy the extra sensory overload of being beat up by the element's, or simply wish to pose down the local eatery. then it has to be the Roadster, every time. :D :driving: 8)

When I'm old and bored of being beat up by the elements, then I'll by another coupe. (DB9 anyone)

I'd love a CSL, sadly I didn't have an extra £10k to spend on top of the cost of my Z4MC. :(

One day though, I'll have a CSL in my garage (preferably two.....E46 M3 and E9 3.0)

That's the beauty of the MR .... Not left wanting something else

I haven't come up with anything this side of the new 911 targa or the F Type which would do what the M Does- offers the open top experience with performance of the M . The 911 cabrio looks compromised and the AMV8 does not offer a lot more shove. The MR is not perfect but it's going to be difficult to replace - perhaps a Boxter Spyder but they are holding big bucks.

But we all live in different parts of the world with different requirements- my roadster is rarely driven with the roof up.

Thanks for all the comments. Anyone with a Coupe near to Lincoln who is willing to let me have a look at it?

Corvette ticks all those boxes, if you don't mind Left hand drive. I LOVE mine :)

Yes it is a bit of a silly argument really. It's a bit like the M owners saying non Ms are a waste of time - It takes me about 20 minutes to get out of 2nd gear where I live, anything other than a bike is a waste of time :)

I think its preference to the individual to be honest & I loved the wind in your hair experience & the enhanced noise but every time I see a M Coupe I wished I had purchased one of those instead there is just something about the shape that makes me fall in love with them yet I never really loved the shape of my Roadster...I suppose we are all different & that can only be a good thing.

There are very few cars that have the overall looks and performance of the Z4M coupe without spending a lot of money.

Saying that there is nothing that competes with the Z4MR as they are what 2-3k less than the coupes… so bang for buck the roadie is better value. There isn't a bad decision, just personal preference the coupe is easier to live with. I never fell in love with the roadie but the coupe is gorgeous. Even the biggest coupe hater aka adamski had bought one so they must be good :P

OK, a bit contentious for a relatively new member, but for me convertibles of any kind (except perhaps a TVR) are for ladies. I like to be out in the elements too sometimes, and for that I have the BMW S1000rr.

The coupe looks so right, I am certain that time will see it viewed as a particular high point for BMW styling.

Couldn't agree more, about the looks/performance factor for the money.

I seriously considered M3, RS4 - neither as special despite being quicker on paper. Cayman scared me because of the electrical gremlins. Thought about a 911 around the 2004/2005 mark, but didn't fancy losing all my mates and being called a w@&ker on a daily basis

The roadster is phenomenal value for money, just look at D6GMB's 23k minter, nearly fully loaded on spec go for £14k. It was a beauty. I paid a lot more for a coupe with 45k on the clock.

Had a drive tonight to charge the battery, car hasn't moved in two weeks. Brought an instant smile to my face :D
